new owner saying Hi
I just bought my first LR
A 2006 V8 HSE with 180,000km on the clock.
Has a good service history, with new brakes & rotors and Suspension System (although not 100% sure what exactly was replaced yet)
Very excited, love the way it drives and looking forward to it saving me a few times when others are snowed in (we get a lot of snow here)
Its mostly in fantastic condition but I need to find the right hand knob from the radio unit - that's gone missing. And I want to rust proof the underneath to combat the salt we get on the roads
it has 19" wheels of course, would have preferred the 18's or even 17" but know I need to replace the rotors etc for those.
so I'm hoping I don't regret my decision (i.e. $$$$ in maintenance/repair) but I can go for prevention over problem.

Welcome to the V8 club. It’s a pretty vehicle.
Smallest wheels are 18” with the V8 brake discs. You probably don’t want to change to D3 2.7L ones. If you need bigger tires consider getting Johnson Rods (or similar) for extra lift. They’ve got a tire fit chart at http://johnsonrods.com/johnson_rods_3_004.htm.

Finally took the plunge :-)
Hi Everyone from Westbury Wilts
I have been lurking on here on and off for years!
So I have been after a Land Rover Discovery since I was a child. I have always loved Land Rovers and admired them whenever I see them drive past.
Everyone told me I was mad as they are unreliable etc etc etc they think I’m crazy!
Anyway, I sold my Audi A3 last night and went over to a friend’s house to buy a 2007 Discovery 3 HSE.
I wanted this one as it’s just had another engine fitted. The friend I bought it from runs a recovery company and he had a Jag S-Type which had only done 55k miles which he was breaking. He kept the 2.7 TDV6 and started scouring the country for a Discovery 3 HSE that needed a new engine.
He found one, so the work began changing the engine. The cambelts have been changed, new water pump, new uprated oil pump fitted, injectors cleaned & turbo checked. Also while the body was off, they decided to change all the brake lines too!
So I thought… if I was ever going to get one, now is the time and that was the one to get
So I picked it up and went to put some fuel in it, it was amazing, I felt like I was the king of the road a boyhood dream realised at last.
One thing I did notice setting off from my friend’s house, the computer said “Normal mode selected” or “Normal height selected” I can’t remember exactly. But I thought it was strange as I hadn’t fiddled with the suspension settings!? Is this normal?
Then after I filled with fuel we set off and the car went into limp home mode, transmission failure, epb failure.
The car was collected today and taken to a garage but no error codes can be found, also I was told that the suspension was on a low setting possibly access mode and that you cannot drive it on that setting as the car will complain bitterly!
Essentially it was my user error…… as this is my first Discovery, am I supposed to do anything when I first get in and start the engine? Does the suspension need to do anything before I set off?
I’m really sorry this is a rather long post, but there is literally nothing you guys don’t know about these cars

Guys with more knowledge will be along shortly.
If the car is in anything other than "Normal Height" when you start driving and exceed 15 mph (?) it will revert to the default setting of normal height and you will get the message Normal Height Selected flash up on the instrument display. You don't have to pre-select normal height, the car will do it automatically.
If you got messages on the display stating limp mode etc then the codes will have been stored. Do you know what device was used to read the codes?
Oh, and welcome to the joy of Discovery ownership Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector

Hi and welcome Roy
Can’t answer all your questions but can advise the following. If the D3 works the same as my D4 then the following happens when you start up and drive away:
Suspension will start off at what ever level you left it at. If it is at entry level (lowest) then when you get to a certain speed (quite low, probably about 20mph), the car will rise automatically and give the message you say “Normal mode selected”. It will do this automatically and no entry required from the driver. I can lock mine into entry mode for driving into low car parks by holding the suspension height button on the go lower mode for a few seconds. If I forget to take it out of this setting (by pressing the go higher mode for a few seconds, then when my car reaches the speed it normally rises at, it gives me a warning saying “slow down or vehicle will raise”.
I hope that helps with one portion of your queries. I’ve no doubt that other more knowledgeable than me will be along to confirm a D3 works in the same way and answer your other queries.
Wishing you good luck with your new car.
CheersGary

Hi Ianm27,
Thanks for the quick reply!
Unfortunately, I don't know what they used to read the codes... I don't think it went into an LR specialist!
They drove it around for a good while and ran through the different suspension settings, everything was fine. They even operated the epb 20-30 times and nothing, the car seems sweet as a nut.
Oh the joys, I just didn't think it would all kick off so soon LOL

Sounds to me like it was in access height and once you built up speed it raised to normal height as it should do.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Hello, new member alert.
Looking to purchase soon an 05/06 disco3, tdv6. Preferably in use spec with black interior. On the prowl for a while, reading up on the various issues.
I'm a fairly competent spanner wielder, day job is keeping planes in the sky so not shy on takling big jobs.
Will be keeping my eyes open on here for a decent example. I do 20k minimum a year so looking for fairly low miles.
