Welcome Nick
Just make sure the oil pump has been uprated and the belts have been changed. The handbrake shoes also get overlooked and need to be stripped and serviced every two years. If these two things are looked after and you give the car a service on or before its due you should avoid any additional costs. Andrew

Hi - time to sign up after much lurking!
I've got a 2005 D3 HSE that's coming up on 150K miles, hoping it's got at least that many in it again! The forum has been a fantastic resource so hoping to get involved and give something back.
Jobs in the immediate future are a V8 brake upgrade (pad warning light has just come on), and in the medium term the full annual service and probably a washer bottle replacement (getting the coolant level warning on the display every time I turn the key).
I invested in a GAP IID tool a few months ago and it's already paid for itself several times over - very impressed with it and a really great example of the enthusiasm and willingness to innovate that these cars seem to inspire (or possibly require??)

hi all, my name is pete, i am a very proud owner of a very early disco 3,apart from all the usual fiddly things i have a suspension fault that is quite litterally driving me bonkers, my car lowers overnight, it does not leak as i have had it outside my house with the battery dissconected and she is sitting pretty as a picture, i am aware that as soon as i supply battery power, she will overnight drop down onto her bumpstops, help

Welcome to the new members
Pete (mexie) there are lots and lots of posts on here about suspension dropping over night, try a search, this might help:

it would also be useful to get a code reader and post the error codes on here and I'm sure some knowledgeable peeps will point you in the right direction Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector

I wrote instructions on how to start the fan in D3 as a preheater. After posting here on the forum, the post has been deleted . I have to add 3 posts so I can write to admins. This is the first post

Hi Cubbanec
The post was deleted because you asked for payment to a PayPal account in return. This is a forum for sharing information, but if you want to profit from that then you need a sponsorship deal with the site owner, Martin.

I find it a bit sad, I have prepared a free guide, which has not appeared anywhere yet. The contribution is voluntary because I spent a lot of time on it. If I wanted to make money on it, I would sell a ready-made set. You probably agree with that.

I understand it's your job. I'm glad you're here to watch and help the forum. But you'll probably agree with me that it won't help anyone in this case. I don't want to argue, that's why I didn't come here. I just wanted to help someone.

Evening all,
Long time lurker but now a proud owner of a Java Black 2005 Discovery 3 V8, with 103k miles.
24 hours in and nothing broken yet, well, nothing new anyway Rosen dvd player has eaten a dvd and the rear ac might have an issue
Are there any user friendly programming tools someone could recommend? I've used ODB2 tools with previous vehicles and they were really handy.
Thanks in advance,
Darran

Hi all, thought I would join after inheriting my dad's 2005 Discovery 3 @ 237k (his from new). He finally upgraded to a disco 4 and passed the old girl to me to look after, which I am thrilled about.
No issues to report yet and she has so far given me a few thousand miles of superb motoring, however looking at the very long list of maintenance and repairs undertaken by chris senior since 05 I'm sure it won't be long before something needs some love!
I have grown up with this car and am very fond of it, am reasonably handy with spanners and have allocated some funds for TLC as and when required. Hoping it will be with us for many more years, despite Khan's ULEZ scheme providing a bit of annoyance in the meantime...
regards,
Chris

Welcome to the new members and owners of this great car It will bring smiles and empty your wallet at the same time
TheCircus73 - the code reader/diagnostic tool of choice is the IID BT Bluetooth Gap, expensive but will do everything (except make a cup of tea!) A cheaper code reader which will do a lot of things is the Autel MaxiAP200
Use the search button on here for lots of information about both of them. Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector
