MOT Woes

Took my D3 to be MOTd today. Some time later get a call from the garage to say that the EPB is stuck on. They later got it off but said that it would have to be replaced. I sent them the excellent EPB unjamming guide and they've said they'll give it a go.

Apparently it stuck when they test the parking brake on the rolling road. I use the EPB all the time, as I'm an ex class 1 police driver and every time I stop I put it on, rather than stick my foot on the brake. I've had no issues with it for several years.

Anyone here have any idea what might have happened? If asked to pay for the time taken to sort the EPB out should I do so?

Your thoughts would be most welcome.

Or have they forgotten to take the EPB off and then tried to drive away ????

with an auto doesn't it come off automatically.

With EPBs, and being a 4X4, should the car be on a rolling road and the EPB activated?????? Its an emergency brake activation then??

As far as I’m aware the park brake on a Discovery should not be tested on a rolling road!- the traction control would prevent it for one thing.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Yes it does.
Not sure about testing it on a rolling road though.

The D3 / D4 shouldn't go on the rolling road, that would be my first angle with the garage. They have to use a decelorameter...

My MOT tester always said you can’t rolling road test a Discovery and always does all brake testing in their car park

Taking the car to Flack (Disco 3 service man from Preston) on Monday who is going to fix it for me. Not taking car back to complete MOT at same garage as I don't trust them anymore. Just paid him £25 for the failed test, but not for 2hrs he had it on his ramp unable to move it!

Flack is a top bloke, done loads of work for me over the past! Let us know what he finds.

I would be trying to get at least that £25 back from the MOT garage, I would be going down the angle that they broke it, and they shouldn't have put it on the rollers.

Well Flack sorted it for me today. Took him 2 hours to get the cover off the EPB and fix it, and then take the rear discs and calipers off and adjust the parking brake shoes. All cleaned and and working fine and dandy. Not a job I'd particularly want to do, very back breaking and all respect to him for doing it.

Also did my front pads and extracted my broken dipstick. Just got to go to the stealers in the morning to collect the new dipstick and then off with the tin tent for 3 weeks, dropping my old wheels off to another forum member on the way.

First big trial for the rebuild of the gearbox under warranty. Fingers crossed I don't get any over revving issues when if I spend too long in traffic! Least I have another 12 months warranty.
