Can anyone shed some light on what the swinging lumps of cast iron are for behind the rear bumpers??

Cancel out vibrations at certain resonant frequencies which would create possibly a booming noise or similar

Or in my case, knocking against the exhaust on the nearside, making a sound like there's my grandson with a frying pan and a wooden spoon under there.
