What's the crossover pipe going to cost me...?
So.. I'm thinking my crossover pipe is in need of replacement (epic whistle when warm) and if the gearbox is coming out, it's worth an overhaul and new TC...
Can anyone give me a ballpark figure for removal and service / rebuild of 6 speed auto box including new torque converter, transfer box overhaul, and crossover pipe replacement?
change title to include crossover pipe and you'll get better answers.
many have had to remove body to complete it .... some have been luckier.
someone was trying to improve the design .... but i can't for the life of me remember who.

Body off is probably the way forward but having spent time laying underneath the thing, gearbox out looks very feasible.
Maybe seeing a realistic price will give me a kick to do it myself if time allows.. or not..08 D3 TDV6 SE

I think Discomadness made up a jig for the crossover pipe.
Apologies if it wasn't.

Not sure if the D4 is different, but I had my cross over pipe replaced and he didnt take the box out or body off.
from what i've read on here, it's all down to one of the bolts ... if it won't shift or breaks, there is no space to remedy it in-situ with the body on.

Thanks, Already on Joe's radar for a price and availability. £390+52 for the part+kit sounds fair enough.. bargain if that's fitted
Would like to know how much it'll cost in total to pull the gearbox / Tbox and get them overhauled at the same time as the crossover pipe...08 D3 TDV6 SE

Isn't a gearbox recon in the order of £2500.
Do let me know if you find cheaper

It's looking that way from transmission specialists known in the land rover circles, just been quoted £3500 +vat for Gearbox and Transfer box recon, plus £1200 for a new torque converter. That's not including any crossover pipe work.
Still got a couple of gearbox places local to me to ask.08 D3 TDV6 SE

135K miles, flushed the gearbox and new transfer box oil in Jan. Box changes fine but do get vibrations at low revs before it changes up sometimes and can take its time changing occasionally. Which is likely the TC.
The transfer box works fine but has the "clonk" on sudden throttle uptake so is due some tlc perhaps..
More preventive measures that I want to take before they go bang but if the cost is the same as reconditioned boxes i may as well see how much longer they last..08 D3 TDV6 SE

The california stop (search it) works well for reducing the tfer case clunk.
Need an IID tool and the software from Gap was 25 or 50 quid cant remember tbh, as you have changed the oil you can reset the gearbox parameters as well, again need IID tool.
Have you tried recalibrating the tfer box?
