'Movie' probably comes from a contraction of 'moving pictures'.
I think you'll find its not a film any more though, the days of movies being recorded on film are a bit 20th Century in this digital age.
And don't get me started on 'gas'. Its petrol, or petroleum spirit. If it was gas you wouldn't see it & it certainly wouldn't slosh around in your jerry can.

Gas in that context is short for gasoline/gasolene (depending which side of the Atlantic you reside). Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

I also hate the use of word “movies”, although strictly speaking it wouldn’t be incorrect to refer to any film made in America as one. For example Disney movies. I still wouldn’t though.

The up and down of volume levels drives me nuts too. Luckily I have 2 LG TVs indoors that both have an option in the settings to normalise the volumes. Seems to work.2006 TdV6 HSE.

What a bunch of muppets.
I lost mos of this morning because they decided that I was due some "software update". Nearly all the way through the delivery (not the installation) of this "update" it was cancelled, and my PC crashed, and crashed and crashed (I lost count of the power cycles the failed-delivery update was removed and I was able to do some real work.
Late afternoon I spoke to man at the top of the real tree (not the IT mess) and he was spitting bricks about IT - I guess somebody in IT is going to feel his ire sooner or later (if they haven't already been promoted to level P45).Rob Smith

Local council introducing an additional £40 year charge for a 'green bin' collection (thin end of the wedge for other stealth charges?) with no communication. Apparently the robbing announced on their Tw@tter feed and FB and some other 'soshal meedja' platforms, must have got to a couple of hundred people at least from the 200k+ local population.......
