Took the leap and bought 6 Dynamic 17x8 steel rims and Cooper (forgive me) S/T LT245/70R17 which all fit well, look great, specially on the spare wheel carrier, and can be heard.
Dealer, very reputable, having trouble balancing them. He's getting a plate to help. Anybody had trouble that the plate might not fix?
Holidays soon when we'll find for ourselves how they run! Have same, 5 Cooper tyres on OEM 17" rims. No dramas with balance or alignment.....but noisey and increased fuel consumption. Maybe you have a dodgey rim?  MY07 D3, TDV6S; Bull Bar, Cooper S/T's, Dual Battery, UHF, GPS; 03 D2, 94 D1, both departed & 1950 S1 80" going strong. 06 Astra CDX Coupe.

been running cooper STs for about 100,000 miles now and no balancing issues. Even when I lost a weight last year there was no noticable effect. Could be the the rim as suggested Duncan

All solved, wheels upgraded by Dynamic, all smooth sailing. 17x8 steels.
