Wheel nuts and locking wheel nuts.

Hello all. A quick word of caution so you too do not suffer the joy I have after going to get my tyres changed.

The gent that does my tyres told me last year to throw away the original Land Rover locking wheel nuts and all the nuts as well as in his words, 'They are total Censored "! ( LandRover D4 2015)
Well being the tight Censored that my wife sometimes accuses me of being, I did not.
Well heck me it was a palaver getting half of the normal nuts off as they are such a delightful design of many parts built together to form a unit that traps water and slowly corrodes and swells under the stupid steel cover making them useless.
The locking nuts though take the biscuit, also being of many parts and of a softer metal than the key which strips them making them a joy to remove!
CHANGE THEM NOW......Change them all!

I would have included a picture of the locking wheel nut but after cutting it off in my irritation I launched it.
It is not a good photo but the second does show the corrosion going on inside the nut. Come on Land Rover, this design is pitiful.

Ditto, I share your pain. I've just bought 20 new nuts a couple of weeks ago after two of the original failed to fit in my usual socket. Managed to get 18 off, left with two that had to have a hammer-blow at the socket to jam it on, before being able to unscrew them.

Sorted now, but a few swear words were thrown around.

With regards to the LR nuts, I removed the covers, put some silicone sealant in, then put the covers back on.

The silicone will stop water ingress so rust and all the problems associated with it, are problems no more.

I think it's the first thing I've replaced on my D4 when I bought it !
Just needed a three meters long tube to undo the old ones...

I went the ebay route for a set of twenty in the same Censored style as the originals. I was going to go the solid nut route from Wrington Engineering but at their price i can get three sets of twenty of the ebay ones so that would be a waste of money. All bought now and on the vehicle, as these suffer over the years i will just replace then each time as a set.
I did not go the locking nut route at all.
