Slimers right, the genuine Land Rover ones are good.
We got them when my wife was expecting our third and for the other two to help them climbing in and out of the back doors.
There really easy to fit yourself as well, only worrying bit is cutting the lower trims for the brackets to fit through, but the holes are marked for you so providing you take your time you should be OK. I took about 2 hours doing them so at dealer prices that's roughly £160 saved.
The steps also give some protection to the doors as well from the usual supermarket dings.

i have the "big" side steps and wanna fit the stronger and more protective and less obtrusive side bars
will they fit the same as the steps ie through the same holes and onto the same brackets?
sorry to ask but i asked l/rover and all they could do was scratch their heads and give me a price for supply and fit.i dont want that i want to fit my own

take a look on the owners information section of the LR website... accessory fitting guides. They may give you some idea as to how they fit.
Maybe you could sell your old 'wings' to simmybear ?

Hi pointyed,
I've never had the side protection bars as the wife thought these may be slippy when wet se we went for the side steps.
I dont know if you've had a look at the land rover owners site yet but the instructions are there for the side bars and the fitting is different to the steps.
The brackets for the steps stick out through the side of the trims whereas the brackets for the bars stick out through the bottom of the trims so it looks like you would be able to see the holes cut for the steps meaning you may need new trims (but I know that some folks have removed the steps and covered the holes with gaffer tape albeit on a temporary basis).

Tried to attach a link straight to side bar instructions but its not worked but you could put the address into your browser.

If you're using your rig off road at all, you should consider getting real sliders with rails and kill two birds with one stone. That's what I did. Here are a couple pics.

if you want the LR Side Protection tubes, i have a fixing kit and the plastic sills with the holes already cut out.
You can have them for a small donation to the site. However, if its protection you are after, buy Uncle Rays Aliminium sills, they are cheaper and a hell of a lot better.
The sills and kit are your if you want them.(exl the tubes as mine got trashed and ened up at the dump)Duncan

hi
cheers disco for offer
i ordered a pair of bars + fixing kit off a company off tinternet which by chance happens to be in manchester.
they sent me the fitting instructions tonight via an email.7 pages
will have to see how the plastic sills look with the new tubes on ie if you can see the original holes.may fill em if they show with resin or if you could price up sending the sill covers you have then i could send you the cash and also make a decent contribution to the site.
will let you know but thanks again
