I'd imagine that towing would be in interesting test. Obviously, 3 1/2 tonne towing capacities are a given, but will the aluminium bodied, lighter weight and chassisless D5 be able to pull a full sized juggernaut to the hard shoulder, just as their D4's are known to?

Pulling a full size loaded hgv is no big deal so long as the brakes are released, if not no land rover product will move it an inch.
I assume D5 has low range?

Since when has towing a 44 tonne HGV, with a vehicle rated for 3 1/2 tonnes, been "no big deal"?!

It's only rated at 3.5 tonnes because that's what LR homologated it for. Anyway, if a man can pull a 44 tonne truck, I'd expect any suitable low-ratio equipped vehicle to be able to do so.

That's an interesting point, I hadn't thought of that although, to be fair, they are being pulled by the chosen few, over very short distances, with very little time pressure, on a perfectly smooth and flat surface.

Any fule kno that is easy to tow 44T. The art is in stopping it before you acquire an amusing tyre motif that lasts the rest of your life*

*About 10 seconds, and you'll wish it was shorter.
