What will I miss in D3 after Prado

Hi all,

Expecting D3 tomorrow or next days, and I have to say what will I miss after driving Prado for 5 years.
Of course, I only tested LR before. So, in no particular order:

1. Handles on front pillars (how do you call them in English?) Smile
2. Thermometer with 12 hour graph
3. Compass
4. Dual battery (LC started flawlessly at -33C, will LR do the same with single battery?)
5. 265/70/R16
6. No problems Smile)

Seems, it is all now. I'll report again as I get D3. Smile

You can still get the dual battery, and run 285/60/18's Handles are available at off road stores, but you would foul your airbags Smile Fortunately, the ride is so smooth in the LR3, you don't need them!

Heh, front handles on Prado are very useful for seniors, to get into the car. And side steps are big plus for juniors, I watch my 3-year son climbing into LC every day, he uses them. I did not order side steps for Disco, they seem to be a little oversized, like tiny wings. Smile

Well, in the US version, there are handles overhead on all four doors. Perhaps it's same where you are. One thing your Prado did not have is Access mode, where the D3 will lower it self to sedan height making egress and entry very easy. You can program your keyfob to enter Access mode at the push of a button.

the air suspension will only raise/lower while the hazard lights are in operation when using the fob.
you will miss the lack of space and I only want to know the temp now.

180ltr fuel capacity standard though, pity LR didn't think of that.

Diesel Prado consumes about 11 liters/100 km, so I bet I'll visit fuel stations with Disco more often. Smile

Sbbr - I am also an ex-Prado owner and now that I have had the Disco3 for about a year, the Prado as others have suggested, is a distant memory. I do miss the Prado's 180litre tanks and simplicity but the diesel was noisy and the manual had the notchiest gear changes I have ever come across.

In comparision, the Disco3 is so refined, so quiet, more powerful, the road handling is car-like and off-road, it is without peer. You made a good choice in upgrading to the Disco3. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Hi SBBR, my Disco 3 does 22 ish mpg (10.7) if I drive like I stole it Whistle but when I drive it sensibly and on long runs I see 25 to 28 mpg (9.4 - 8.4), which I think is excellent for a 2700 kg car, I have an 07 Defender with the new engine and that is a thirsty beast, and worse than my 12 year old Defender. So much for progress!

I assure you though, you will soon forget the Prado, you also mentioned the single battery - I took the D3 to the Czech Republic in March 2005 and the temperature was - 20C and the car started fine, even after 5 days of not being touched.

Just enjoy it! Thumbs Up

Really? I thought it would only work if you have the emergency lights (4 blinkers) switched on (which makes this option worthless).

You will also miss the spare on the back , you will suddenly be able to use your inside rearview mirror for a change. You might also miss all the engine noise and your SUV on the highway as the D3 feels more like a luxury sedan. Very Happy Do give us some feedback after a week in your D3.
