Just bought a HSE. Will a Karcher damage the paint if used on the car not just the wheel arches. I know from tragic experience that if you put the Karcher on your hand it splits the skin (I did it when sober?) but is a car strong enought to take it.

Keep the end of the nozzle 18" from the car and you should be OKIn the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
if you are unlucky & have some below specification paint.......Yes
if you swap the standard nozzle for one of the others you can buy....Yes
probably more the important question is....
Will a pressure washer damage / compromise other parts of the vehicle / put water where water shouldn't be.....Yes
only my opinion mind (based on wrecking other cars I have owned & used)........a pressure washer can be used as a quick / lazy way of doing a task that has been done for a long time time before pressure washers available or commonly used....maybe OK for cleaning patio furniture or concrete paving but for my vehicle/s NO WAY.
if your car is a long term proposition - I wouldntBREXIT - done properly.

Best thing is the pressure washer will remove most of the mud and crud quickly so you can use a normal amount of buckets of good stuff to do a proper clean.

A bucket of water & sponge, hosepipe, pressure washer, shammy leather, polish, detergent etc, etc. will damage paintwork if used inappropriately, any or all of the above are perfectly safe to paint, wiring, mechanical components etc. providing they are used appropriately and with sympathy to the component they are being applied to

......agreed any method used incorrectly can do some damage....just a whole lot easier to do with over 60 bar (sorry over 1000 psi) water pressure..
paint is one thing....at least it can be repaired

I'm with AndrewS & co here....
Assuming it's a home-brew Karcher then just keep it away from the paintwork (although I would say 2-3 foot, not 18"). No harm will come to your new D3
Keep the jet away from the air intake and all door/window seals, handles, mirrors etc (common sense) and don't worry about it.
Remember that the Karcher is only really useful for removing mud and from the car. You will need to wash it properly if you really want to clean it. 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

I've used a Karcher on mine from new, and so long as you are careful, you will not do any damage.
Its great for cleaning the inside of the wheels, but don't blast the brake calipers, and don't clean the engine with it. Also not a good idea to point it anywhere near the radiator or intercooler as it will squash the fins and ruin them.
Take care and it will be fine

Close work in the PDC sensors is not recommended - they have a good water seal, but not THAT good.
As long as the device isn't sucking up* grit it's got to be safe.. If any paint comes off, it SHOULD come off, surely?
A
*One way to beat a hose pipe ban (hosepipe ban? where do I live?????) was to let the pressure washer suck water from the water butt. Filter recommended. Plan rather redundant this year 2006 D3 finally swapped for a 2016 D4 Graphite in Graphite grey. No mods

I'd guess muzzle velocity of about 200mph. Dropping very rapidly over a few inches.2006 D3 finally swapped for a 2016 D4 Graphite in Graphite grey. No mods
