Hi all,
I'm new to 4x4 and off roading and need some advice. I've just picked up a Discovery 3 2006 tdv6 about a 2 months ago and used this forum for a few issues like resetting the xyz sensor and air suspension reconditioning and advice has been great.
Now my issue is I've just checked the spare wheel and it is a 19 inch and I have 20 inch wheels on my disco. I go off roaring with others who have defenders and discovery 2's and they are divided wether or not I would get wind up and damage my transmition if I were to use the spare as it's a Disco 3 and it has computer and probably does magic to compensate. I'm going to get another 20 inch ordered but now I've noticed it I will probably get a puncture as that's sods law and will be stuck out not knowing if I should put it on.
hope you can help and thank you

May cause some issues but windup is not possible when driving on the road with TR set to on road - maybe if you select Rock Crawl on hard surfaces where the centre diff is completely locked.
You need to check the rolling diameter of the 19" tyre against the 20" tyres and if they are the same no issue.
Where there may be issues if there is a huge difference is to the DSC/ABS/TC systems where differences in wheel rotation may activate different systems. Not sure how much a difference is needed but if large will cause problems with these systems but not windup.

What size Tyres have you 255/50/20 should be the same diameter as 255/55/19 so perfectly matched.
I have 255/55/19 on my D3 but currently the spare underneath is 235/70/17 which is the same diameter.

As others have commented on, its not the wheel size that you need to look at, its the tyre size, as a 255/50x20 is the same rolling circumference as a 255/55x19 or a 255/60x18.
In fact the LR supplied standard skinny spare is a 19" skinny irrespective of the road wheel size.

Thanks all for your comments makes more sense and have learned about tyre dimensions and found tyre ratios match between the spare and the others

I’m guessing 255/60/18? Which should be the same diameter as 255/50/20.
