Looks a really good job, it’s got me hooked. How much do the spray cans cost?- just to compare with other alternatives.
My Disco is Corris grey and the shuttle is painted grey as shown in earlier photos. The down side of painting appears to be that extra care is needed when cleaning ice and snow off, I have seen several damaged like mine.

Hi

Thank u ,That’s such a kind compliment coming from a well respected member Bow down

Cost £35 quid all toll

Was able to spray 2 x coats on the scuttle and A trim , using one can of each different paint

Have taken hours and hours doing this as I’d never really done anything like this so wish to ensure it comes out ok

Just gave the panels another very light wet and dry and washed everything off very carefully, also ensured I managed to get in the grill holes , in case spiders decided to get in there

Waiting for it to all dry , so might be able to start installing the windscreen heated jet loom in, at least then will be ready for when I get the D4 heated jets later on

Ref ur panel, would several layers of lacquer be suffice to protect it, suppose as well with it being a gloss the snow etc may not be able to stick so well

Clutching at straws here , could a tube be taken off the FBH that contains water / antifreeze, so it comes from the FBH , tucked away underneath the scuttle panel and then back again like a big loop, so with the holes in the scuttle panel could in theory melt all the snow away without the possibility of marking the scuttle panel

Yeh i know need to get out more, was just thinking of something nice and simple

Thks again Thumbs Up

I’ve had the same kit for a good many years, not the same supplier as like LR most companies buy them in bulk and stick their own brand labels on them, you will not need another spray gun, I have bought the best in the past and still preferred the gravity fed one like yours, only downside of that type is holding it upright whilst filling, I found clamping it lightly in a vice simplest. They are a very good little compressor and I have sprayed many complete cars with mine in the past, just be aware the pipe casting assembly that hold the regulator, valves and pressure switch is made out of alloy and is very easily damaged if the unit falls over any time, don’t ask me how I know Big Cry.

Whist I’ve got the equipment to spray doing a small job like the scuttle tray is far easier with spray cans, it saves all the mess of mixing paint and cleaning equipment.
For the final coat choose a hot dry day if possible, certainly not when damp or raining, to avoid/minimise running put the scuttle plate flat on a bench or table, not vertical and spray at an angle down to avoid any drips off the can.
Leave overnight before fitting, the longer the better it takes 7 days for paint to fully harden even though some paint is touch dry in 30 minutes or less, do not let any rain water stand on lt in this time, should it get wet wipe off ASAP with a soft towel. Thumbs Up
I don’t think there will be a snow or ice problem with mine I am aware of the problem of fetching paint off with a scraper, my car is garaged every night anyway, but may be a solution for others.

Many thks for the great knowledge as it’s most appreciated Bow down

Also good to know I can use my current spray gun, as I’ll be replacing the front bumper with a second hand one just thought with the wheel arch panels come off very easily to do the lot all in one go

Got a new rear bumper parking sensor loom so might as well remove that at the same time

Wondering if I can get say 2 x litres of the black Matt paint pre mixed, so can just pour it straight into the gravity gun or best to mix it urself

Assume I’ll have to get some adhesion and primer spray and work out a lot cheaper than rattle cans

Ref the thickness of the spray paint do u use some form of cup to test how quickly it passes through the cup at a given specified time for the vecosity plse

Panels still have a few drops of water on them where I washed them all down, won’t touch them because of th fear of getting dirt or grease from my hands on them m so will just leave them for another 2-3 hours

Where I’ve got overhead cover there was a few flies so sprayed that will diluted vinegar that got rid of the little sods ,as I certainly didn’t want any flies around when I start spraying the black finish coat

Really enjoying doing projects like this

Front bumper , I’m unsure if I should spray it all matt or gloss finish in the middle

This second hand one has the holes for the PDC and fog lights

Going to see if I can start routing the loom for the heated windscreen jets in this afternoon as I want to 100% ensure the scuttle panel etc are dry

Thks again and really do always appreciate the sound advice Bow down

Just applied now the 2nd black finish coat , sprayed then then hung them back up

Think there need another good 2-3 coats as I’m just doing a light dusting in-between coats , as I wish to ensure the holes are covered without paint dripping off everywhere

Just took a couple of pics , know it needs a few more coats but must admit the finish so far doesn’t look too bad

Did get some new wiper arms last year and looking at them don’t think they need painting

Going to start rubbing the scuttle and A panels down again, then see if the weather improves up as I don’t wish to open up the engines fuse box with the risk of rain

Hi

So while waiting I wanted to fit a tube to a can of dinitrol, as the A pillars are off can inject down the inside of the holes in the A pillars

Dremel to the rescue again Whistle , having to mess around to fit a tube on the end of the can

Waiting for the sun to appear again

Now applied 4th layer

Dam it though got a slight run at the top of one of the A panels

Assume the best course of action is to wait for it to dry over night then to gently rub it down with some wet and dry

Haven’t touched it and left well alone

Don’t think it looks too bad so far
