Wiper arm linkage issue

Severe ice storms today, and the drivers side wiper arm won't pivot.

I lifted the arms up to inspect them, and the drivers side seems to just pivot on it's own almost like the gear is stripped.

The bolt seems to be tight, but the arm moves on it's own without the passenger side arm moving..

In the pic, I think the gear on the end of part #1 is stripped, but I have no part number for it...

Any hints on a partno for this?

First port of call is try and tighten the nut first.
Im not saying the linkage cant break, but if you study the pic you will see theres no gears either end its just a pivot bush set up so so long as the two link arms are moving both wipers should go.
Could just be one of the ball joints has popped off?

Hi Don

I had a snow related wiper failure recently, my fault entirely, I hadn't cleared all the snow from the roof before setting off to work, had to brake a little sharpish, snow/ice slid from roof down the windscreen setting the auto wipers off and that was that..... Wipers had a mind of their own after that. Embarassed

My linkage survived but the motor didn't, I ended up buying the linkage and motor assembly complete secondhand very cheaply from a vehicle dismantlers.

It was a simple enough job, you need to remove the wiper arms, you may need a puller for this, remove the 'A' pillar mouldings, then the cowl panel. The whole assembly is held in with two bolts and a rubber mounted locating stud, undo the bolts pull the linkage off the locating stud and unplug the electrical connector.

I beleive the linkage is only available as a complete assembly from LR, assuming you need LHD, the part number is LR038348 and is approx £180. Shocked

Hope this helps
