World War 1 "Sites"
My wife and I will be coming back through Eastern France from Switerzerland at the end of June. We are hoping to visit some of the sites of World War 1. Did a small tour some 40 years ago and have not been that way since. Any recommendations for places that are a MUST with, perhaps, details of reasonably close camp sites. Menin Gate does not need to be mentioned as that I recall is a MUST in the evening. Thanks for any views or comments.

Found this on a Norwegian web page today as its 100 years since ww1 started this year. I tried to get a translated link with Google translate but it didn't want to. It said that Google Chrome would auto translate it, but I dont have it installed so I don't know. Even thou its in Norwegian the links in the article isn't Norwegian pages.

Theipval, Albert,Messines Ridge and the Canadian memorial are all worth seeing. Also some of the smaller, almost hidden away cemeteries are particularly poignant.

Don't forget the French side of things, around Verdun for example.
Verdun area, the Ossuary at Douaumont, plus Fort Douaumont, absolutely essential. If tunneling and mines is your thing, a visit to Butte de Vauquois near Verdun has to be high on your list.
My great grandfather was killed at spanbroekmolen, Messines. Not a lot to see there now, but doesn't stop me visiting each year to say hello.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
