Worn premium tyre vs new budget tyre
I thought this was interesting and perhaps others might too, so I'm sharing it here.

Interesting, I've always changed my tyres at 3.5mm or so, I'm not sure I'd be happy running them down to ~2mm, maybe 2.5-3mm but the Pirelli's tend to get noisy and a bit 'unsettled' before they start to lose grip. If only the Pirelli ATR's were still available in proper sizes!

I've had Vredestien snow track tyres on a VW Passat that went out of shape long before they were worn out. I've got Pirelli ATR on my D3 now, not overly impressed tbh. I've been running them for 25k miles now, I find they have poor grip on a damp road, and they tram line terribly. 3 of 4 tyres have had punctures, all from flints on the road. I don't think the carcass is very strong. I won't have Pirelli next time.Richard

Sure they're ATR's? I ran them on and off road, way better resistance to punctures than others I'd tried and roadholding was good from -20(ish) to +42deg. C. They lasted ~25k on my Disco3, about another 8k on my Freelander 2

Just changed my 4 to 5mm Maxxis Premtra tyres on my Volvo XC70 for Bridgestone A005. The Maxxis were horrible when cold with wheel wobble.
They struggled to get any temparture into the rubber and the wobble was so varied that driving through a puddle was enough to cool the rubber and start the wobble again. Horrible. The Bridgestone rubber has transformed the feel

I’m not surprised, I’ve got Michelin CC’s on two of my cars, a front and a rear wheel drive. They’re a brilliant all year round tyre.
