Yes, car supermarkets have a law unto themselves.

When I was changing the FL2 for the D4, I was looking at a nice D4 in Evans Halshaw.
However they came up 1k short in the trade in value, I offered to compromise at £500, but no, they wouldn't budge.
I then put the FL2's detail into the Evans Halshaw 'buy your car' website and they offered me more than the asking price I was looking at on the trade-in.
Reported this to the sales guy, but his manager still wouldn't budge on his original valuation.
Seemingly two different parts of the company - car sale and car buying.

So I could've got my price and the D4 I was looking at by dealing separately with the two elements of the business, but out of principal, I told them to stuff it and walked away.

And in doing so, I ended up with a better deal and the colour of D4 I was after, by going somewhere else.

Well finally got one.
2011 XS facelift in Orkney Grey so the 8 speed gearbox Very Happy

Pick it up Friday. They didn't shift on the cam belts as part of the deal but did up my part ex by £700 so that will offset some of the cost.

Great stuff Rog, glad you got there in the end.
Make sure you raise a thread with pics when you get it. Thumbs Up

Now just need to persuade Chuckalciuos to move over, he's been asking a few questions over here too. Laughing

At long last Rolling with laughter
Really impressed with it. Everything works as it should. Clean, very good condition for its age and mileage. And rides like a magic carpet.

Once I'm satisfied the mechanics are in order I intend going the black pack route with black MY14 style grill and fog surrounds, side vents and eventually rear lights.

My plan is to rig it up for light weekends away with awning, solid parcel shelf and that sort of thing so that i can finish work and just head away in with the dog somewhere.

Great news, you'll love it!

No bad thing that you didn't get them to do the belts, much better to get them done at a trusted specialist.

hopefully yes, i have a LR specialist near me but im not sure if he deals with later model LR or just defenders and early D1/D2.
failing that i have a trusted indy, and ive just found out about another LR guy setting up close by.

piece by piece ill get it checked over and then get belts, fluids, auto box flush etc done.

Cavendish Motor Workshop on Storforth Lane at Hasland is very good. They looked after my D3 and D4 until I swapped last year, but when the LR warranty runs out on this one, it’ll be going there.

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

ive taken previous LR to Tonks 4x4 in Huthwaite but ive not been for a few years as he doesn't deal with Freelander or Evoque as they aren't proper Land Rovers Rolling with laughter

my indy is Colemans Garage just off J28 M1, not the cheapest but their service is 2nd to none and they have done quite a few body off jobs on D3/D4/RRS for turbos etc so they know their stuff.

there is also a LR specialist in Shirland IIRC, just outside of Alfreton.

So that's 4 recommended local garages I have now to try and play off against each other to get the big jobs done Very Happy

ah ok, i was under the impression it was easier to get to the turbos if, god forbid, you needed to replace them

i know some garages say its a body off to change the belts which just means they dont want to scrape their knuckles when doing the rear belt Laughing
