Xenon lights fitted to Discovery 4 MY12 GS

Successfully fitted my new Xenons to my Disco4 today Smile

So now I have my next problem.... The full beam light needs a new white light halogen to be fitted so it doesn't look yellow up against the Xenons. I can't figure out for the life of me how to get the main beam bulb out... Any pointers?

Otherwise, the Xenons are a massive improvement and using the fairy lights as DRLs switched to sidelight position is a bit posey, but feels nice to see them reflect back in the rear of the car in front Wink

Thumbs Up

With the headlight removed don't you remove the smaller of the two caps on the back then you can see the bulb. Pull the wiring connector off the bulb and unhook the spring clip from round the bulb one side at a time?

Nah, it's not like the dipped beam clip. Some kind of top hat with what looks like an integral spring arrangement... From the manual it just looks like you unclip each side. I will try again later...

Really? I don't remember it being difficult or unusual (although its been a while), you are sure you aren't trying to remove the xenon bulb aren't you?

^ Rolling with laughter

On the back there are two round covers. I'm sure that from memory the main beam bulb is behind the smaller of the two covers

Does this help? In this picture the main beam is behind the right hand hole as you look at the picture.

Great! Helps a lot.

Confirms I am looking at the right bulb. The one I need to (and trying to) remove is item 11... This is the top hat thing

Right so at least we know you are in the right hole Whistle
Presume you have pulled the cable connector off the bulb?
The square thing you see in the pic is what I assume you mean by the top hat thing? This doesn't come off its attached to the lamp unit the bulb rests on it held in by the clip.
I was worried by what you said in earlier post that the clip wasn't like the one on dipped beam bulb - you were referring to your previous halogens weren't you as the dipped bulb in a xenon also works as main beam (with the use of a shutter), the bulb you want to change is referred to in the manual as the main beam fill in lamp.

Because the xenon bulb (white, outer) works as dipped and main beam (by the use of a mechanical shutter to cover part of the bulb for dipped operation). The other bulb (inner, which you call the main beam bulb) is actually called high beam fill in bulb on xenon lights and supplements the operation of the xenon bulb on main beam. It is also used for the headlight flash function. This bulb remains a halogen bulb (more yellow than white) even in the xenon headlamps.

In the halogen headlamps the outer bulb is dipped the inner bulb is main beam.
