Xenon Lights. Totally Brilliant! |
|
Have decided this weekend to change our year old totally reliable TDV6 S for an SE. Have just today done a 250 mile trip M6-A66-A1, and loved every minute. Not hanging about, and days MPG was 31.
So now that Xenons are not standard on the new SE, dammit, what do I do? £700+ is too much, however, I`m not clear whether xenon bulbs can be bought to fit the halogen lights. Or do I need complete headlamp units ? Anyone give me any advice?
Would the dealer be persuaded to let me have my old xenon units from my "old " car ? I doubt he would, cos the new buyer wouldnt be getting a proper specced "s".
HELP !

No the headlights are completely different as the xenons have a starter box.
Keep an eye on ebay, they come up sometimes for around £300 for the pair.

Well, they are a straight swap, no modification necessary, but you need to swap the whole headlamp assembly.
Very easy to do, in fact its so easy that you could probably do it whilst the dealer has his back turned He may never notice!
I would have got the dealer to agree to swap them before I signed the deal. Its a real backward step for the D3.

I think Simon had his dealer agree to swap his lamps over as part of his negotiations, however, I don't know if he did a deal in the end or not.

Whilst I`m on, I dont want roof rails, and I do want mudflaps. I assume the dealer could ask for roof rails to be deleted at build, would I get the cost of the roof rails deleted from the invoice if I didnt have them, I wonder.
Not got to the nitty gritty with the dealer yet, but have got an excellent basic deal. Finishing touches to be dealt with.

yeah they agreed to swap the lamps over plus the full size spare too (the new D3's look very weird at back with a space saver fitted).
Decided to forgo the trade in though... will wait till May / June time probably.

OH... and its completely crap that LR decided to offer Xenon's on the HSE only... I would forgo the sat nav in place of these as they are far more useful and I believe make driving far safer than having standard bulbs fitted.
SHAME on LAND ROVER !

Thanks everyone, that gives me confidence to hassle the dealer into submission.
Will let you know the outcome.

Do you have any more info on the space saver tyre? I had not heard about it and our order is for a Jan 06 build vehicle. Are all discos now coming with the space saver spare? I will go into the dealer and check the 'weird look' if I cannot find a picture.

Thanks Cliff...........so with the space saver spare you don't see it from the rear? I did notice at the dealers that you could see the spare tyre slighlty from the rear so hopefully our Australian spec 06 models have the full size alloy spare.
Since the specs would be country specific I have just checked both the Australian website and the sales brochure, both say full size alloy spare. I hope this is the case as our dealer seems to have very little information regarding our 06 build Zermatt Silver D3. They cannot even confirm the January build or ETA here as they say information is not available as yet via their computer ordering system. Does seem strange to me, I just want to know our vehicle is ordered and on the way.

from the back it looks like a big gaping hole... you cannot see the spare at all unless you get down very low. All you can see are the dirt / water deflectors.
Looks very strange. No 4 x 4 should have an invisible spare
