Yorkshire Commercial Breakers Ltd - SCAM - AVOID

I saw a detachable tow bar on Facebook marketplace for £100. Looked good in the pictures. I messaged the seller and he said leave your number and I'll call you back. After a couple of conversations (from a landline to my mobile), I got sent an invoice which looked legitimate. I also checked out his website and had a quick look on companies house, to make sure the company actually existed.

I sent a bank transfer and after a week, no goods turned up. Calls are not being answered and neither are e-mails or 'live chat' on the website...

On closer inspection;
1. The website did not contain a telephone number
2. The company has only been around since April this year and has therefore not filed any accounts (ie is bogus)
3. Invoice had no VAT
4. At around half price, it was too good to be true...

I Googled the phone number and apparently I'm not the first to fall for this particular scam - hopefully I'll be the last!

Bank is trying to get the money back.

Avoid Kevin Ridgway / Wesley Hubbard / Yorkshire Commercial Breakers

If you would like to hear their side of the story, please ring 0114 2121937 or 0114 2121937, but you'll just get a short automated answerphone, which will hang up on you.

You have been warned!

Hope the bank can get your cash back, maybe try and use a credit card if you're not sure next time? as I think it's much easier for them to get cash back.

I've found that buying things like that are really good on Facebook Market Place, I've just had a look and there's quite a few on there ranging from £95 (most around £120) to £220..

It's much better than Ebay in my opinion and seems less susceptible to these scammers. if you use that combined with maybe the forum courrier service, or forum sponsor, it might be a more trust worthy venture.

Good Luck!

Perhaps Facebook have removed it after I pressed the ‘Scam’ button on it. Either way, if you see something being sold by Wesley Hubbard or “Yorkshire Commercial Breakers Ltd” be VERY wary!

I wish I had read this message before I purchased a part from them.
They have just ripped me off for an engine advertised on Facebook Marketplace.
I have been getting the same response when calling their number 0114 212 1328 and when I call from a different number you can hear them log it to block it.
I wanted to collect the engine but they put me off by saying it was located at their warehouse in Scotland which was a 7 hour drive, I wish I had insisted.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Action Fraud: National Fraud & Cyber Crime Reporting Centre

Dear Mr Spice,

I am sorry to hear you have been a victim of crime. Thank you for taking the time to report to Action Fraud. Your report has been sent to the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) for review.

Experts at the NFIB examine the information you provide. Where possible, the information is also matched against other available data in order to enrich and corroborate the details of the fraud. The NFIB assess whether there are viable lines of enquiry that would enable a law enforcement body, such as the police service, to investigate.

On this occasion, based on the information currently available, it has not been possible to identify a line of enquiry which a law enforcement organisation in the United Kingdom could pursue.

Registered users of our service have the opportunity to update their report, so if you have additional information about your crime which you believe could change the assessment, please log in to your account and submit that information. We continuously assess the content of individual and linked crime reports; in the event that a line of enquiry is identified we will provide you with an update.

Please be assured that by contacting us you are giving the police vital information that they need to protect you and others. The information you have provided may be used to disrupt criminal activity and inform prevention advice and campaigns.

If you have any queries regarding this letter please visit www.actionfraud.police.uk/FAQ. If you would like more information on how to protect yourself from fraud and cyber crime, please see the guidance at www.actionfraud.police.uk/support_for_you.

Thank you for taking the time to report and helping us to make the UK a safer place.

Yours sincerely,

Head of NFIB

Bad luck RAD73UK - I'm imagining that it was for at least £2000?

Above is a copy of the e-mail that I was sent after contacting "The Action Fraud Team"

The laughable quote is;
"On this occasion, based on the information currently available, it has not been possible to identify a line of enquiry which a law enforcement organisation in the United Kingdom could pursue."

If anyone else has come across these scammers, then please report it. The more people that do, the more likely it is that something will be done.

I would have thought that as everyone is trying to claim money back from their own bank that the Yorkshire scammers would have their bank account shut down or at least investigated? It doesn't make sense for a bank to essentially be funding them with charge backs. NB - we haven't got our money back yet... but given the well laid out website and slickness of the scammers (ie we weren't REALLY stupid!!!) etc, we're hoping that the bank will do so. If I get money back I'll let you know.

I've just tried to find "Yorkshire Commercial Breakers" and it seems to have been taken down...

I used https://www.actionfraud.police.uk to report them (if that's what you're referring to).

The tow bar was re-posted for sale on Facebook for a month after I 'bought' it. No texts, Direct Messages, or phone-calls were replied to during that time.
