Yorkshire Dales or Moors

Wife and I are starting to plan our 2014 caravanning holidays, so I was hoping from some info regarding camp sites in the Dales or on the Moors. Sites that will take twin axle vans. Around 60 units, with all facilities electric, toilets etc.,

We have visited places like Kendal, Bakewell, and Keswick which is more the Lake District & Derby areas, in the past, so looking for somewhere more in the middle of the Dales. Never ventured to the Moors except Scarborough so very open to suggestions. Sunniest time of year!!!, We are not Hikers (To Old) lakes or rivers on site or nearby, do like a bit of coarse fishing.

We belong to both caravan club & camping and caravan club, but have'nt found anything to set us alight. unless someone out there knows different.

All suggestions will be throughly checked out, many thanks.

Why not do both?

Base yourself near the A1 at Northallerton/Rippon etc

The Dales are generally more compact and pretty wheras the Moors are flatter and wilder.

Just make sure you have fish n chips in Whitby Thumbs Up

The Dales and Moors are very different areas, just make sure your tin tent isnt blocking my route when Im next up there visiting the folks Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Hi - purchased a caravan in September & looking to go into the Dales before Christmas & came across this site (after eliminating a number of others!) which I'll be booking this week - Riverside Caravan Park at Bentham.
Cheers

Slenningford watermill near ripon not too far from the A1 is a good site, small but very good.

There's a good site in Hawes brainbridge ings farm though it's basic

And also a good site at Howe Steen Gorge just above Pately bridge

Then there is a good one in Thornton le dale which has good access for the chippy at Whitby although the chippy at TLD is excellent !

As said the dales and moors are so different although it would be good to do both ?

Have a good one whichever you choose Thumbs Up

As I'm not a tin tenter,
Try around Pately Bridge, Middlesmoor area has a couple of sites
Not far from Rippon, Harrogate etc
We love visiting this area

As above they are different but I prefer the dales. In the spring weather permitting the dales is stunning. There are two cc sites one in hawes and another grassing ton both very good.
There are numerous others as well

Was stationed at Dishforth in the early nineties and visited the Dales practically every free weekend also walked the Coast to Coast. Moors were fine but we enjoyed the Dales more. Wish we could afford to live there. As for fish and chips in Whitby we tried many times but the nearest parking space we could find was in Thirsk Laughing

I've been going to the Magpie for a long time, until recently when I tried Trenches, after dissing it for being a pensioners caff I went in JUST to shut the in laws up and as they were paying I thought it rude not to !

Well, they knocked the Magpie into a cocked hat ! Absolutely fantastic Big Cry
I do miss the maggy tho !

Oh, try to sweep thro Knaresborogh, there's a belting chippy up a side street, don't go up there with the tent on the back tho, they are great fish n chips too !

+1 for Trenches, I couldn't remember its name though Embarassed
Magpie always has a queue for it IMHO overrated
Also I seem to remember Greens over the swing bridge was quite good to.

But I thought this was advice on Dales and Moors caravan sites Whistle

Depending when your going I would just take off and see where I ended up for the night or 2

Many many great places to visit

Thumbs Up

THE Dale to visit is Swaledale in my opinion. Muker and Reeth are great places and if you're there when the hay meadows are flowering you'll be blown away.

Well I would like to thank all you guys for your suggestions and ideas. Whitby sounds good, any campsites near the Trenches or the Magpie?????????????????

We will have a look at all the sites you have named and no doubt will stay at a couple of them over a two or three weeks period when we are in the area. Thanks again

I second that. Must be one of the loveliest walks in England: from Keld down to Reeth on a warm spring/early summer day.
