ZF8 Gearbox Access

For Geoff really, but may be of interest to others:

Shield secured by five 10mm bolt, 3 rear and 2 forward. Fastener recess is wide so will accept 1/2" impact with the usual rusty metal clips behind:

Feed and return cooler lines are on LHS above prop and park cable:

Access is a little tricky and probably easiest to go over the prop:

Flange retaining fastener visible here:

Looking forward you can see the 2 lines entering the thermostatic valve block:

Viewed from the other side you can see that the valve is protected by a rubber boot; it looks like the shrink-on type:

Oil drain is as you would expect it:

The access to the fill port is nothing like as shown on Topix, at least not on my MY13. There is loads of room so no requirement for the special access tool that JLR list for the job. A standard ratchet and hex bit is all that is required:

Hope these help.

Sharing the knowledge is good.

Brand new correct o-rings is critical & the bolt is torqued to 12Nm.

When you cut the pipes it may be worth considering their orientation with respect to the flange.
