Gear box flush or service? |
|
I have a 2015 D4 with 54,000 miles and am looking at keeping it a while so looking at getting the gearbox serviced or flushed.
Which is better? Should ZF fluid be used? Better to be late in this world than early in the next.

I think you are wrong, but would be interested to hear your reasons for saying this?
Some might consider having a MegaFlush at this mileage (54k miles / 87k kms) somewhat early, but I intend to have mine done at 50k miles & am already in touch with Bodsy to do this.
This is what our local experts Hutfields of Botley have to say on the subject:-
Quote:4x4 vehicles known for their automatic gearbox problems, suffer mainly due to the servicing schedules stating that gearboxes are a sealed for life unit and the oil never needs changing.
However ZF (the gearbox manufacturer) recommend the oil to be changed every 50,000 miles, we have serviced many ZF gearboxes that dealers have quoted thousands of pounds to replace all at a fraction of the cost of a new gearbox.
The Land Rover Discovery is probably our most common vehicle in for Gearbox flushing, with automatic gearbox problems starting from around 80,000 miles, some of the common faults are shuddering at approx. 2000rpm, slow gear engagement and gear changes when cold, torque converter lock up, to name just a few, and the cost that some customers are being quoted runs into thousands of pounds.

So just to be clear, there is no issue mega flushing the 8speed box? Had it done on my D3 and it was like a new machine. Am on a little over 60k miles on my current D4 8 speed but there are so few places over here in Ireland doing it.

Bodsy did my 8 speed. No issues before or after. That’s key. Issues before = don’t expect a 100% fix. Preventative maintenance rocks Visitor from fullfatrr.com

Sadly Geoff. is ISTR out of circulation.
Bodsy is coming to Hampshire, I know not when, but I have offered my drive, if he wishes to use it.
