Or strip it, flog all the bits then buy a newer one to get stuck in. Repeat until you can buy a new Defender. Thumbs Up Laughing Laughing

I seem to have a plan that is working. The slabs I went down the garden to get to break and put in base of new carport have worked. Probably don’t need snow chains now. 40 yards to go!
Irony is I wanted a carport to provide cover whilst I maintain the Disco !!!!

Well done, good job.
Snow chains may have worked on their own without the slabs or visa versa.

Without the slabs under all wheels, those on grass would spin. I presume a locking diff would have been useful.

Aired-down tyres (grip), low-ratio (control) and Terrain Response in rock-crawl (minimising slip and locking the ctr diff) would have been my attempt.

If not, taking out the plugs and using the starter-handle worked for John Mills and Anthony Quayle. Laughing

Also driving backwards up the hill would be even better as reverse is a lower ratio than first!

I really should have done more off roading. I have it in mud and snow mode. Tomorrow with family around to move the rubble in front of tyres I will use the rock crawl option. Thanks HWN.

I think this has convinced me to think about taking it off road at a local venue. I last took it off-road on a D3 event about 15 years ago when the D3 was 6m old! I still have a small dent in a side step. As it’s now approaching 16 years old, I won’t be quite as precious.

Hi just picked this up. I’m about an hour away from you in West Sussex. I have 4 50mm waffle boards and a winch with all the recovery gear. If you need help post here and I’ll come round.

Pleased to say we extracted the Disco with benefit of my snow chains and some rubble. Learned a lot. Thank you for advice above. Rock crawl was better that grass mode. Snow chains work well when tread on tyres is clogged up. Don’t do it again!
