I thought I knew most of the LR indies around the west mids - never heard of these guys before and Cradley is only a couple of miles from me.
Their ebay feedback has only 48 feedback even though it says they have been members since 2011

46k ? Christ this engine failure fiasco is an absolute scandal. How are land rover etc managing to keep it so quiet. Shocking. Jarrod

Yes, to say I'm p*ss*d is an understatement. Car is in excellent condition, new set of tyres 2 months ago so we are now at the point of deciding whether to sell it on as it is or replace the engine. I found Oval on eBay and talking to them they seem knowledgable but I just wondered if anyone had had any experience of them.

What are they offering? A used engine or replacing with a recon unit?

They offer recons for 3K assuming the major parts of the existing engine are reusable.

I'm not sure on that particular company, but I'm fairly sure that you can't recon the engine. There isn't a parts supplier for the bits, so I would be wary of what you're actually getting.

Unfortunately with the LR dealer quoting up to 17K for a replacement engine I have to either sell it as it is or look for a cheaper option. Recommendations gratefully received.

I'm not a whiz at Companies House searching but can find no trace of either the company or Joe Short
If you're local I'd be popping round unannounced, if they are as good as they say, they should have a few Green Ovals up in the air or at least some parked up waiting on repair because they are so busy.
Tread wearily and do your homework or it could turn into an even bigger disaster.
Good luck

One option people seem to do is to fit a used engine with history.
I believe people have fitted engines from this company. They still are not cheap, and you would need fitting on top of this.
Maybe speak to Disco Mikey on here, or Woody32 as they have changed and sourced used or recon engines for forum members.
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a cheap way out of this situation. LR really are a disgrace when it comes to this issue.

Just to close this off I sold the car as it was without repairing the engine.

A causal search on Google about us and I find this thread. So I thought I'd join up and introduce ourselves.
To answer a few of the points raised; ebay feedback does not mean much if you don't actually sell your service through it. It's just a means to get our message out there and works well.
Drive past us and you'll see just how busy we are, even without our name on the building!
I can reassure you that all the parts required to recon TDV6 or TDV8 engines are readily available and we're not the only people doing them.
Oval Autos is the trading name of our company and I'm all over Companies House, if you spell my name correctly!
Not that we need to, but 2019 is the year we will start to put more effort in to our online presence. New website, Twitter, FB, Instagram, Google reviews, Trustpilot and yes, eBay feedback.
So feel free to drop me a line, drop in or call. I don't bite!Joe
