Price ok for USA?

New to the forum. I am looking at a 2007 HSE, 131k miles. $8.5k. Never been off-roaded. No rust at all, incredibly clean. No leaks, suspension is good, transmission is good. Wheels wouldn’t be my first choice but I like them and prefer them over stock. I like the roof rack and ladder, I will probably remove the aux lights. It’s my favorite one I have seen and I like the seller, well maintained. Checking to see if price is fair as I am new to this though I have loved the LR3 for a long time.

Welcome. This forum is mostly full of Europeans with the odd yank here and there. You might want to ask on landroverforums.com instead as there it’s the opposite. You’ll probably get a better feel of what’s the market rate there, I mean.

Thumbs Up

On the census form here in New Zealand the choices to tick (and you tick as many boxes you identify with) are
European
Maori
Pacific
Asian
Middle Eastern/Latin American/African (MELAA)
Other

The only box I can tick is European. I've never been to Europe. I've never left the Southern hemisphere. One of my Grandfather's was born in England, Wootton Bassett, and a Grandmother from Swindon.

Australia is the furthest I've travelled! Just across the ditch (I'm not well travelled)

Anyways, if it's free from rust, has a good V8 and transmission and the interior/wiring is not soaked from leaking sunroofs, you can't go very wrong, it's one of the best LR variants from the more modern era. Better pay a a bit more for a vehicle you like and works well.

I guess US is the same as here, that these D3/LR3's have reached their price bottom and good examples (of which there are fewer every day) will keep their value.

Great vehicle, I believe the gasoline (petrol) V8 engine is robust, if it has a good service history. I've have refurbished the air suspension compressor but all parts are available, and I've been able to fix despite having limited mechanical experience and help from this excellent forum. It's recommended to flush the transmission after 100k miles, even though its a sealed unit. It's a big heavy vehicle so things like suspension and brakes wear with use.

If you buy it make sure you stick around on the forum, just make sure you bring a sense of humour.
Cheers

I sold my 2006 V8 in 2018 for $9.5K and it had fewer miles and was immaculate. I wouldn't say that it's a steal at $8.5K, but if it is truly immaculate it's not worth haggling too hard.

What state is it in (assume Alabama?) and what states has it lived in (Carfax)? The underside can suffer badly from rust and the US throws salt onto the roads like it's going out of fashion. Pay close attention to the plate that supports the fuel tank, as that area rusts quickly and can be expensive to fix. As has been said, check the condition of the sunroof drains (pour a bottle of water slowly into the corners of the sunroof; water should trickle out from the wheel well). Fixing it is a pain but it's not difficult nor a showstopper, but definitely worth $500 off asking price.

Check the air suspension operates properly. Look also at the dash carefully if the car is from out west. The engines are superb (I've been lucky enough to have had every engine diesel and petrol (except the 5.0 V8) and the 4.4 is the best I've owned. It should give you no trouble but equally it should purr and growl respectively when ticking over and pushed. An early job is to change the transmission fluid, and that's easy (great video on YT on how to do it).

Good luck.

It seems a bit high for an LR3 with that mileage, but if it is in excellent condition, and with a few add-ons that you want, go for it. For comparison, in 2014, I paid just a bit more than that for my LR3 in 2014 4.4L HSE spec with 100k miles on it.
