What the **** did just happen? FIRE???
Just came home from work. After about 25kilometres motorway (and about 2 kilometres from home), the car started to release black clouds of smoke, and I had loss of power. Initial thought was EGRS (AGAIN!?).
But whe I came home there was smoke coming out from under the bonnet.
-After inspection I found the insulation burned up to black powder and Oil everywhere.
-After even closer inspection I found a hole in the engine. What the **** did just happen here???
Aaaarhg, I hate this car (but love it also...)
Is this the end?

My guess is a fuel leak from an injector or fuel pipe, dripping onto a hot exhaust manifold/turbo and has ignitedMy D3 Build Thread

Possible although it seems that the smoke was coming from the hot spilled oil everywhere...
Any idea what caused the hole and what that means for the engine? It still turns over on a quarter of a key turn and idles perfect. There is still about half the oil in the carter.

New manifold for starters
I expect the fuel leak off pipe will have been damaged
Then that will allow you to start and run the car, and check the fuel injectors and wiring for any other damage/leaksMy D3 Build Thread

Is it possible that by means of a faulty EGR valve the valve cover melted due to too much hot exhaust fumes? Same for throttle body.
Did not find a fuel leak. Only lots of oil, that seemed to come out the ventilation valve....(?)
