Have you updated to iOS 11? If so, that might be the problem. I have an iPhone 8 that worked perfectly when I got it (iOS 10), but since ‘updating’ to iOS 11 I’ve had all kinds of issues - device not recognised, sometimes works but is very slow to show any changes of track/album on the screen, or sometimes doesn’t operate from the screen or steering wheel controls. In our Mini, again it worked perfectly well before Apple’s f*****g about with the software, but since, it will initially connect, but if you try changing track, it will do for a few seconds and then drops out.
Kind souls on this forum recommended a Bovee Bluetooth device, which I bought and it works wonderfully in the D4, but not the Mini. Apple suggest that it’s the car’s fault (yeah, right!), but can not guarantee that a car software update will rectify things, so I’m reluctant to fork out £65+VAT for the update if it doesn’t.
Our ‘old’ 5 and 5s phones still work perfectly well on the old iOS system.
I have complained to my provider and said that I don’t remember reading in their blurb when I signed up that it would not play music in the cars after an Apple update, so on that it’s not fit for purpose. They want to try to ‘repair’ the phone which I will give them the chance, but as my wife’s iPhone 7 is exactly the same, it won’t make any difference.
Thanks Apple!

Are you using a genuine Apple 30 pin to lightning adapter on the end of the curly cable? If not, that is likely to be your problem. This is what you need:
https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/MD82...r?fnode=97
Otherwise, the Bovee Bluetooth device is excellent and gives you the convenience of not having to plug in:

MY11 D4 5.0 V8, Bournville, lots of goodies!
