Transfer Box Sump Plug Washer

Did a service this afternoon , engine oil, filters etc. Did the front and rear diff oils, all OK. The light was starting to fade but I pressed on with the last job of the day which was the transfer box.
Drained the transfer box and refilled with 1.5 L of LRSTBO. Noticed when I put the drain plug back in it was the same as the fill plug, when I came to fit the fill plug the copper washer dropped off it and it was at this point I remembered that there is a washer for the drain plug!
Blast, now I have to drain the special transfer box oil swap the washer and refill without wasting the expensive LR lubricant. Trying to work out if I can unscrew the drain plug, stop any leak with my thumb while I refit the plug with the washer. Is it necessary to fit a new washer each time,it was new 3 years ago when I last changed the oil?
Just 'cause you got the power... that don't mean you got the right.

I didn’t fit a new washer 2 1/2 years ago and it’s been fine. I’ll fit a new plug and washer next time as I happen to now have them. Thumbs Up

That makes me feel better. I’ll check for any leaks later.

You could always remove the level plug and quickly swap it with the drain plug, you should onky get minimal loses

I might be able to do that, it filled to spill so easy to top it up if necessary.
