2010 D4 HSE - Ipod Lightning connectivity?

I have a 2010 HSE and have the LR Ipod cable that attach to my Ipod Classic and works beautifully as it charges Ipod and Ipod can be managed from the touch screen.

I have now been given a new Ipod Nano with the new Apple Lightning connection. Apple sell a Lightning to old Apple connector adapter but this does not seem to work as the touch screen declare - Device Error?!

Other than running the new Ipod through AUX and losing all touch screen control and battery charging, What other options do I have or am I doing something wrong somewhere?

Does the MY10 have a special plug for iPods? In my MY13, it's just a USB port (you have 2, one marked iPod), so BYOC.

Yes it does have separate ipod socket so not sure what you mean with BYOC?

Is it a genuine apple converter or a cheapo?
I think I remember someone saying the genuine apple ones were ok

Genuine Apple converter as bought from Apple store so can't be that.

I seem to recall a thread posted in the past about the actual socket in the center armrest of the Discovery that needs to be changed/upgraded to be able to accommodate this new lightning connector on certain models but can't seem to find the post. I hoped that someone would have been able to point me in the right direction.

As always LR themselves just are not interested and would rather sell me a whole new car

Hi,

my iPhone 5 is working perfectly with the original Apple lightning adapter on my LR4 HSE 2010 and the LR iPod cable.

You mean this one?
http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic70501.html

I could not charge my iphone4 using the standard ipod curly lead. Obviously this was without a lightening converter.
Do you have an older device to try without the converter?

Ah yes!! That's the one. Thanks

I have an older Apple device with the original Apple connection which works beautifully with the LR curly cable(without the adapter obviously), but as soon as I fit the Lightning adapter to the curly and plug in the new Apple device I get no joy Sad

So the question is. Will I need this new socket and will this sort out my problem or do I have another ?

I have not checked recently but does LR supply a new curly fitted with the Lightning end, rather than the older original Apple end?

Thats a strange one Question
My original console socket would not charge with the curly lead on my iphone4.
By changing the console socket this cured the problem.

As you are saying you are able to charge an old device with the console socket you have already then I doubt it is the problem although I may be wrong.

Have you tried using a old mains charger with the lightening connector on it or perhaps some other method of testing this connector as the symptoms are pointing to it being the problem IMHO.

I'm not sure whether LR do a new curly lead with lightening connector.

Good luck Thumbs Up

Hmmm.... Seems like it is only me with this problem! I will have a long chat to the LR dealer at the next service and see what comes off it.

Thanks for all the response. Greatly appreciated.

I think you mean Lightning; Thunderbolt is Intel's 10Gb/s connection for peripherals and video, originally in Macs (Apple had 12 mths exclusive from Intel), but now also in PCs.

To the OP, the MY13 D4 just has a USB socket for the iPod/iPhone, so you supply your own standard cable (be it 30 pin or Lightning), hence BYOC (Bring Your Own Cable).

Apart from it being anoying not being able to get the Lightning adaptor to work, why not just keep using the iPod Classic and use the Nano elsewhere? I also use a Classic and its got about 60 Gb of music on it. I've no intention of changing it!

Btw did you consider that it may be the Lightning adaptor (even if genuine Apple) that is dodgy? No reason to think its the LR that's not working if it is ok with the 30 pin devices and others have found it works with the adaptors. Just a thought!
