3 MiFi for France

I'm off to France in Aug and have a few questions.

1) Will a "Pay as you go" 3 Mifi unit work in France using the data package bought and paid for in the UK?

If the above is true

2) Would anyone in the UK be able to buy one for me inc SIM if I sent the payment over and then I could arrange for BigDave to get it to me before Aug.

Over here in Ireland, the 3 MiFi only works in the Republic of Ireland and not even up the north so I can't get one here.

Three have just launched their "Feel at Home" service in France, so your SIM should work almost exactly as it does in the UK Thumbs Up

OK but my problem is I live in Ireland and £ Ireland in their wisdom don't allow the use of Irish SIM's to roan for free like you have in the UK.

If you are looking for a pay as you go MiFi then the Feel at Home page is showing this would work fine and I could do that for you no problem Thumbs Up

Only question is do I go for the 3G or the 4G, I will only be using it in France for work, what would work best in France, I guess the 3G but will the 4G give me 3G if 4G is unavailable?

I travel extensively throughout Europe, and have first hand experience of Feel at Home.

You need to know that the speed is like a 2nd class ticket. You won't get 4G, only 3G, and this seems to have been throttled back somewhat but is more than useable.

In this case my advice is that 3G will be fine since you will not get any faster in practice.

Hi there,

Couple of thoughts......

I bought the Three 4G Mifi for exactly the same reason, but on a £15 30 day rolling contract that offers 10G of data.

One thing I found is that you have to ask Three customer services to enable Data roaming with Feel at Home, and if you opt for a pay monthly sim this is only possible after the first billing date and usually 30 days after you buy the device. With pay as you go you can request roaming immediately.

With pay monthly you should set monthly £ cap with Three so as to avoid surprises if you exceed your allowance.

Hope that helps

Only going to get it on "Pay as you Go" as it will be used in France and 3 or 4 times a year when I'm in the UK.

Handy thread as just off to France myself later next month. I will look to buy a 3 MiFi on PAYG package and I guess I will need 3Gb to keep the iPads fed. Is there any particular hardware I should go for from the 2 offerings?

I have just bought the White one (3G), lets hope there is a signal at the camp site, where in France you off to?

We are off to Camping Le Pin Parasol for 2 weeks starting 5th Aug.

Was that a tech fault or just no network in the area?
