Superchips map is loaded via the bluefin device but needs the chip modifying first.

I have just had mine remapped by Celtic tuning. They claim 307bhp and from the feel of things, they may be about right. One interesting thing though, I now see black smoke under acceleration. This has reduced with miles, but there nevertheless.

I am tempted to remove the map and try someone else's that's perhaps a little less aggressive and see whether the black smoke goes away.

BAS perhaps.

So, I had the map reduced and fuel trimmed a bit and the car is now running much better. I was definitely running too rich at lower end and started to smoke due to over fueling. The car is much better now with the reduced power.

I will give it a couple of hundred miles to settle and see what we end up with.

Not much difference in MPG but drivability is greatly improved. In short well worth doing.

Remap

I did my D4 HSE it was worth it, power delivery was smoother and fuel economy improved, it's an additional 35 BHP. Goes well and pulls well. You need to give it a few weeks after its been to settle in, and be selective about fuel to avoid supermarket and use the higher quality fuels from the major oil companies it's better. I have done several times no issues at services most remaps are hidden.

is there still no availability for doing this through diagnostics? I just don't want to compromise my warranty just yet, but I do really want a REMAP!!!!!!!

With the Bluefin you can remove the map and restore the map with the Bluefin interface but the chip needs bench programing in order to do this.

I have had a look at this, the bit the bothers with the Bluefin or otherwise is that the ecu has to be removed to be put on a bench and therefore LR can tell that it has been fiddled with Shocked

I would think with any map if they wanted to they could do some forensics and find out. Not sure if the LR system could tell or not or if there is some kind of seal or mark on the ECU to tell if has been out?
Maybe Pete Bell knows if his can be rumbled. Idea

It looks like the only other option would be to get one of the plug in chip box's, that way you could remove it before going to the dealers.

I believe that a few people who have opted for the bench upgrade have acquired a second ECU and hold the original mapping on that to allow the chips to be switched if needed.

even if you do have 2 ecus, is there a way in which they can tell that's it has been removed in the first place, such as seal as caverD3 said?

Anyone had any experience with plug in chip boxes on D4? I must admit I'm not overly fond of them in general, having only bought 50 quid versions and bunging them on an old turbo diesel lump but not sure about sticking one, even if its one of the more expensive (although I gather they all seem to do pretty much the same thing!)

any more thoughts??

Any updates regarding re-maps for the 2.7l D4 Question

I decided I'd wait till the warranty ran out before doing anything, still about 7mths to go, so thought see how things have progressed or not.
