Tuning boxes only work when everything is ok. Should something go amiss with your engine or just a simple sensor failure the tuning box may trash your engine.
I do not recommend tuning boxes.

Pretty sure?
I'm not (yet) aware of any company that can remap without fettling the ECU first. Do you have a link to a company that has this capability?

Any updates on this, or does the ECU still need to be opened for a re-map,
Mine is an AUS spec 2011 2.7l D4 with the Bosch ECU, so is the same as the 3.0L D4, tried to have it re-mapped using a file downloaded to the car, actually corrupted the standard map, had to have it re-flashed to fix the standard map on the ECU, wasn't that a fun experience.

Contact superchips there is bloke from NZ you comes to Aus regularly to bench map (maybe someone in Aus does it now?). He will enable the ECU to take a map from their bluefin unit. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Yep, they are the ones we tried, their re-map does not work on our car(Bosch ECU), Superchip use a file designed by Pete Bell.

The ECU has to be bench mapped first to allow the map to take.
Did the superchip guy bench map yours first?“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

There are some 2.7L D4 engines with the Bosch anti-map firmware that need bench mapping too.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I would love to get my car remapped, however it's going to be a problem as the car is in Spain.
So begs a couple of question:--
1) If I buy a new ECU, then what info is needed to clone it, could I obtain this info myself, if so what would I need?
2) If the current ECU on your car goes tits-up, then what does the dealer do, I assume simply fit a new ECU., so why bother cloning?
3) Does the Replacement ECU need to be a new ECU, or will a second hand one suffice?
4) Can we use the ECU of a later car, e.g SDV6 instead of a TDV6?
5) I have also been led to believe (by someone at Gaydon) the power units are the same, it's only an ECU mod, and possibly the JLR dealer could flash a TDV6 ECU to SDV6.
I guess at the end of the day, if I have a remap, then I will end up going down the BAS route, I have had Pete Bell remaps on my last Sport etc, and the big plus has to be his after sales support.
However, if I could simply fit an ECU from a SDV6 car, new or used, then that would be a great way to add a few more BHP.
