Bike racks?

Do all the bike racks out there need a tow bar? Cant reach the roof easily so want to put them on the back? If you do need a tow bar will the LR detachable one do? Thanks in advance!

halfrauds do a solid wheel carrying three bike rack, that clamps on the ball; so it will fit either type of rack

has carried three full sus bikes no problem, indeed fitted a fourth frame on there without wheels on one occasion

cost sub £100 IIRC

Have used the Thule 3 bike carrier on a detachable tow ball with no problems. ( Cant remember the model number of the carrier just now ).
Don't know of any other carrier other than the roof mounted ones.
Have got both, and find that if you put the bikes on with the rear wheel towards the front of the vehicle they are easier to control. I have the old fashioned black Halfrauds carriers for the roof, and as long as I haven't prked facing downhill, I can put the bike up, and raise the frame it to position on my own. The bike will then stay there with the rear tie down tight till I climb up the wheel ( no hamster jokes thank you ) to clamp the frame and attach the front tie down - simples.

Most definitely. It has a nose weight of 150kg - one of the highest for a car. I carry 5 bikes on a rack that fits on the detachable tow bar.

You also need the electrics for the rear light plate if not already fitted.

Another Strada vote. Love how it easily slides to allow access to the boot allowing top and bottom to open

cheers

I'm using the Strada. Bit tight for four bikes (using the fourth bike adapter) but three bikes works fine. Haven't used it much yet, but when I have it's been great sliding it away from the car and then being able to put the dog in the boot after loading all the bikes up.
