Cleaning Side Steps

Hi
We have side steaps on our Disco 3.They are the larger type with grooved plastic on the top and metal on the sides. The metal has become discoloured in varoius places especially by the front wheels and also near the rear wheels.

Does anybody have any suggestions about what best to clean the metal part part of the side steps with please ?

Many Thanks

Tony

Best thing to do, is take them off road, then they'll get Censored and you can throw them in the bin, saves all the cleaning hassle Thumbs Up

I have used an Alloy Wheel cleaner on mine and then used Poorboys Wheel Sealant. This may be a bit severe for some buy mine were quite bad and I had tried a number of things.

I suggest you try some of the milder wheel cleaners first, if you do a search you will see that some of the alloy cleaners are a bit severe !!!.

Go to Halfords and buy..

1 x autosol metal polish
1 x packet of #00 wire wool

Once cleaned use a wax/sealant to make it easier the next time Thumbs Up

Well worth checking the security of the alloy trims while you are down there as they are very prone to the rivets/mild steel contact points corroding and the trim falling off in the road!!

I'm assuming they were fitted at delivery so warranty should carry for the three years otherwise its just the one year for the steps. I was 18 days out of warranty and got knocked back initially until I wrote a begging letter to Customer Services who allege its not a problem for them. You should ask John McDonald (assuming you are going to Morrisons?) if its a common problem and see what he/LR says!! I'm aware of at least 14 guys who have had this problem following my own experience.
Sorry to seem as though I'm hijacking the thread - back to polishing and Solvol Autosol - my choice too!!
