Thanks for that Bodsy, had found that part number in this thread but the official Optima site does not have this part number, just the ones I listed above...

Having had the dreaded flat battery after 15 minutes of trying to get my phone connected via bluetooth, I am interested in this topic. The battery was original and nearly 4 years old, so I have had it replaced, but I am now paranoid that I'll go somewhere and won't be able to start it, hence my interest in a dual battery system.
From comments on here, it looks like I don't need a split charge system, etc. just something to make sure that I can start the car when I need to.
So can anyone recommend a jump start / booster unit that I can permanently leave plugged into the 12v aux socket?
The LR Assist technician who helped me the first time it happened had an 800A unit - is this over the top?
Any advice welcome.

Barney, yes, you can get portable units, and the higher the AH rating, the easier it will be to start.
ChrisTyler jump started his D3 from a DeWalt 18v drill battery & some Cat 5 cable, but probably not the preferred way of doing things Bodsys Brake Bible

Found this what do you think - powerful enough to start a dead TDV6?
http://www.theultimatefinish.co.uk/ring/rp...arter.aspx
Can get it for £125 from my local Allparts.

if it's just a boost, then will be fine. If cranking battery is totally flat, then it 'should' be OK. CCA is the one to watch for, 400 is about 1/2 the existing battery, but 800 peak would be OK. You can also use these for other 12v portable appliances, so is a useful addition.
Charges off your 12v, but just be cautious if it goes flat, that you try to charge it off 240 as it may try pulling too much on 12v (I don't know what overload protection there is)
Also, like any battery product, don't let it stand idel without charge for too many months or when you come to use it, it may not have much juice
Seems a good price though IMO Bodsys Brake Bible

Hi
I bought one of these after my D4 let me down with a flat battery for the second time.
It seem that just keeping it in the back of the car is enough to scare the D4 into behaving (I just know I'm going to regret saying that!!)
It seems a good piece of kit and started a 4 litre V8 Morgan with no problems the other day.
Richard
ps Price seems good too - mine was £130 from Maplins

Cheers,
Hopefully I won't need to use it (just fitted a new battery), so I didn't want to shell out £300 on a "professional" one.
Thing is having had it die on me after 15 minutes of use, I could see me being stuck on the Eurotunnel holding everyone else up as I try connecting up my power drill battery!
Thought the inverter might be useful. Barney
