Duel Battrey - Whats Involved

Just a question. Thinking about installing/fitting a second Battrey, to give the OEM one a lift as it seems the cold is getting to it. To save costs I dont really want to go Split charge as so far I have no need to worry bout that side as I have just original equipment to supply, and no engel etc etc.

So my question is, wots needed, and what type of battrey do I need? I am thinking of having the second one with the servo, so I need another clamp to hold it tight, but what type/thickness cable is recommended?

But if you don't have a split-charge system, how will you keep the aux battery charged ?

Installing a second battery into the space takes 2 minutes. Wiring up to a split charge probably about 5 minutes. Running cables through the interior and wiring up all that takes a couple of hours.

If you don't have any other bits that might be using power (fridge, winch, invertor, CarPC, work lights etc), then it sounds as though a second battery is way over the top Mac Thumbs Up

Why not just invest in a decent charger and plug it in overnight if you suspect it might need it...

You also need to consider that the battery shouldn't "really" need it under the conditions you've said, so unless there's another reason, it could just be easier to replace the battery for a new one.

Another option could be to buy one of those chargers with a battery built-in to be able to jump start the D3 if you're original dies for some reason...keep it charged and in the boot and job done...

Seriously though - your battery (if it is original) is at least 3 years old now and would probably benefit from being replaced if it is giving you problems Thumbs Up

Cheers guys, was thinking of running 2 Battreys in sequence, bit like my Actros TBH, letting the alternator do the work. The battrey is original factory, so could be past its best and performs well, but I need still to use the D3 more. did 263 miles in Nov, 189 miles Oct, 469 miles Aug, and so far this month I am on 600 + cos of the snow Embarassed

TFC serviced in April, not done 3k yet Shocked

Did I understand correctly that you want to put another battery in series with the existing one? Shocked

Or did you mean in parallel?

Either way, your alternator will not be very happy trying to charge two batteries simultaneously without some type of split charge system.

Also April was eight months ago and not many batteries fail in Spring/Summer - it's nearly always when the cold hits that they give up the ghost....

You mention that you do only 300-400 miles a month and I guess the majority are not on motorways - this would probably never let you charge up a second battery enough and thinking about it, it could possibly be the reason why your main battery is now Censored ...

I'm still trying to imagine what noise the D3 would make if you tried to run the starter on 24V Whistle

Cheers,
Paul

Traxide
National Luna
IBS

I have a Traxide kit - cables come all made to measure for the D3. Very easy to install.

...or you can build a kit yourself for a lower cost and a bit more fiddling.

Just looked at your post - and I think my Traxide kit came it at less money than your list... Confused

Might be wrong, though...
