The first all-new Land Rover since Ford bought LR in 2000?
BBC Breakfast this morning covered a little snippet about the new Freelander and billed it as the first all-new Land Rover in the past 6 years since Ford bought Land Rover. So do they think that D3 was a facelift of the old series 2 TD5????

Allegedly the L319 project was a BMW one (the original one). L319 is the D3

RRS is a D3 in drag, it wasn't all new from the ground upNow a disillusioned new Land Rover buyer and have jumped ship to something less expensive and more reliable that hugs trees.... now driving a Mini Countryman PHEV as well as my trusty and brilliant 1996 Epsom Green Defender90 Tdi300

if you look at it that way, some of the LR2 is reworked from the older one and where did that steering wheel come from, not exactly all new is it.

That's what I understand - the L319 designation appears to have been carried over (since L322 is th FFRR)Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Just to clear this up Discovery is the first all new vehicle from Land Rover under Ford ownership.....the Discovery replacement project under BMW, code name L50, was ditched completely when Ford took over.
The L50 proposal was going to be positioned in the market to avoid competing with BMW products.
Project L319, which became Discovery 3, is very different...a true premium product in terms of its' integrity and capability and certainly not a 'poor relation' to ANY other vehicle in its' class.
The number of global awards that Discovery 3 has won backs this up.
