Front windscreen washers frozens

We'll this will serve me right for just topping up with water....... froze in -5 degree on me way to scotland and back t'other day.

Put neat washer/antifreeze in the remaining resevoir, windscreen wipers work alright, just cant hear the pump working when you operate the stork on the steeering colum.

Is there a fuse that might need to be replaced? Do I persist and hope the weather changes and it thaws out... any help please Bow down

The fuse is behind the glove box, and ideally it will help if you have a history of inbreeding to change it Rolling with laughter as you need an extra joint in your arm to reach it comfortably. A pair of long nose pliers is best.

ISTR that this was a common problem on early D3's then they advised the dealers by way of TSB to put in a bigger fuse, I think they recommended a 15 amp. Thumbs Up

so the absence of any noise from the pump might indicate that the fuse has blown due to " drivers stupidity" in trying to operate the washers when frozen Rolling with laughter

Yeah, definitely a case of driver error Mr. Green It happened to me in the Czech Republic, - 22 in the mountains and frozen fingers to boot. The washers still freeze up in bad weather, even with well mixed additive but the heated jets seem to cure the initial freeze first thing in the morning within a couple of minutes.

If you have heated nozzles this ISVs good time to check they are working, look for defrosting first around the nozzles. Mine where not working, got them fixed last winter. Thumbs Up

Fuse blew on mine the first week I got it. Fuse box is a total 'mare to get to and getting the fuse out is a matter of counting by touch of feel style until you feel the right one.

Upgrade to 15amp Thumbs Up I still have the original replacement 10amp one in, but have spares in the car just on case.

this happened to me on booze run Dover-Calais before Xmas.

wasnt fun down the motorway at 7am in the dark, with 2 little ice cubes on the bonnet and motorway filth all over the screen! Twisted Evil

Changed fuse in MaccyDees car park in Calais and was fine from then on.

I too had topped them up a week or so before with just tap water.... Embarassed

D3 has heated ones but even on your metro something's got to give if you try and force water through before they've had a chance to work The End
