Low Battery Warning Light - Update
Hi All
got my 2012 d4 on tuesday, all great so far, except, that when i went out this morning, and opened the door, instead of finding a lovely warm car to get into, i had a 'LOW BATTERY WARNING' on the dash.
have spoken to the dealer, and they are looking into it. had the same warning on my wifes spoet, but that was resolved by a software update, as all the systems where not shutting down when ypou locked the car.
has anyone else encountered this problem?Cheers

I haven't had this problem but I would bet that a good long run will sort it out. When you think about it you only picked the car up on Tuesday so prior to that the mechanics and car cleaners will have been in and out of the car, the salesman showing you around etc, with very little running of the engine to charge the battery up, a good run will put some charge into the battery and I'm sure it will be fine after that. Yes, I have had the same happen, was alot worse before the D4 update programme last autumn, but still not completely resolved. Currently investigating whether it's a duff battery or that the connector on the Alternator has loose pins which apparently was found to be the case with a few D4s and was only discovered after replacement batteries didn't resolve the issue. I'll see if I can dig out the TSB that relates to this.

the car was picked up tuesday morning, drove 10 miles to work, then 50 home again at nigh, the comute to work is 100 miles per day, so it has had a long run.

Mine is showing this fault.
Had an software update 2 weeks ago, as no fault found but still not working as it should.
When FBH set on timer quite often does not work at all, or shows low battery warning.
Yesterday would not vent or manual heat when parked up, but all came on when #i opened the door to get out.
Not sure if it is a faulty sensor as the car has always started with the low battery warning onD4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST

It would appear that D4's don't like being left out in extremely cold conditions..........I seem to be getting the battery warning only when the temp has dropped below freezing or when the vehicle is left overnight outside in strong cold windy conditions.....?

More like batteries that can't handle the cold. I've now bought a replace OEM battery at my own cost and am going to fit it and see what happens over the coming months. Interstingly, the new one is a Varta and not a piece of Delphi Like the one the vehicle came with.
Going to leave it in a couple of months to really test it through the winter rather than just a short few weeks, will of course report back any findings on here.
Had my 2012 build D4, NZ specs !!! for a week. It is 20 + deg C here and I cannot listen to radio without LOW BATTERY warning if motor not running!! Anyone have any clues. Still would not have any other vehicle though.Near enough 40 degrees South!!!
Another thing to look out for, there apparently was a a spade of alternator replacements done, but then they found that it as down to the 3 or 4 pin connect having a problem with loose pins in the plug, so maybe worth checking as it could cause the alternator to stop charging periodically.

Same has happened to mine low battery woes,
It doesn't help wife driving the 6 miles to work with every electrical gizzmo on full which just eats the juice and the distance being travelled is not sufficient enough to replen the battery !
So i now trickle charge it every night through the tow socket using my ctek.

Sharky Sharks - what do you use to connect the ctek to the tow socket? I have a similar issue from time to time due to short runs and this sounds like a great solution! I looked up ctek but can't see a tow socket link. Would this work through a cigar lighter socket just as well on a D4?Paul
You use the two permanent -ve & +ve feeds on the 12S Caravan plug, the white/grey one. Pins 3 & 4, see here
Don't use cigar lighter socket, doesn't have a permanent connection nor is it rated high enough should the battery be a little too low for just a trickle charge.

Supercharged as MrH says use the two pins in the S type socket (White Cover)
Use pins 3 for the earth feed
Pin 4 for the live feed
I made up a lead with a new 12 s plug and attached it to a battery in the garage and i charge the battery with the ctek which in turn trickle charges the car overnight when i plug it in.
I use the battery as a fail safe i would rather have a problem going to the slave battery and not the LR's own battery,
Just me being over cautious but you could wire it all direct into the plug if you wish.

If charging direct to the battery - don't use the -ve post, either earth on the body or go just the other side of the relay on the negative post. I'm not worried by the health and safety side of it - but if you charge direct to the battery terminal the vehicle is not able to sense the charge increase (and hence the low battery warning can still remain - esp if only doing short journeys).
The standard batteries seem fine if looked after properly, but like most, non deep cycle batteries, they will die quickly if allowed to fully discharge.
