I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Just did the new forest from northants and back plus running around. Managed 26 mpg. That's the best I can get.

Sit right up behind an artic lorry on the motorway at 56mph and see how many mpg you get. Wink

(On a closed course with a professional driver of course) Whistle Laughing

It still amuses me when I read the threads about mpg, I mean, if it really bothers you, you really, really shouldn't have bought a D3. Rolling Eyes Rolling with laughter

Well, all opinions are welcome and whilst I value yours I must disagree. Very Happy

I consider monitoring mpg an essential part of car ownership, akin to monitoring blood pressure(!). It can tell what you your secretly know about 'lifestyle choices' but it can also be an indicator of something amiss, especially if the change is unexpected or unexplained. In equal regard a patient running at 32 mpg will probably have a prolonged or better quality of life than one running at an unexplained 22 mpg.

if finances are stretched better to own a Disco and eek out the mpg rather than be unhappy owing something 'more economical' IMHO

oh and Robbie is correct (as usual Laughing )

Agree with what Robbie says as well, dive mpg usually means something is amiss. You won't see the dive unless you know what's "normal". Whistle

My D4 average mpg display got to the dizzy heights of 37.9 mpg before I decided enough was enough and adjusted the Trip CCF from +7% to -4.5%. It's almost accurate now and displaying around 33 mpg!

I am happy if I can break into double digits Mr. Green

There again LPG is only 75p a litre (~32ppm*) so it's about 19 mpg for diesel equivalent on ultra-urban. My journey to work and back is 6.5 miles - on the bus after the two miles of walking to and from bus stops it's £4.50 return (70ppm) - how good on my green is that? Also it takes me 10 minutes to drive rather than 40 on the bus. For me my total running costs have always been to take how much one spends on fuel and double it, I'll have to do my calcs again to see if this is true of the D3, but it worked for my Rover 216, E30 325, V70 T5's and Diesel mondeo.

However on longer runs I can maintain 20mpg on LPG.

Chased and been chased by a few D4 SDV6's down the A303 before and can't say there is really much difference. Did they even bother with Petrol D4 V8?

* ppm - pence per mile

I watch the mpg via an App. It shows the car returns on average, 23mpg. Sometimes a touch more or less depending on how much i've been doing town/motorway driving.

I'm hoping the service, and washed out intercooler can help bring it up a touch.

Not all of us earn a lot so a few extra mpg here and there is always welcome. Thumbs Up
Plus with the App, i can tell if somethings a miss, like the sticking caliper i had back in october which took a couple of mpg off the average.

While i do get a lot back in fuel expenses, there is no point burning it for the sake of it.

Although, doing a fair bit of off roading does kill the average.. Rolling Eyes
