P2290 injector control pressure too low fault

Hi all

I’ve not long purchased my 54 plate 2.7 d3 and have already thrown some money and man hours at it to date 😂 I’ve had a new fault throw up and I’m here for some advice.

I’ve read the code best I can with a icarsoft scanner and it’s showing p2290 injector control pressure too low. I’ve been doing some scanning on the forums and have seen people have success fixing this by replacing the in tank fuel pump which I’m considering. I already have my egrs blanked off and have recently fitted a new diesel filter. The problem seems to pop up at higher speeds under load. I get an engine fault flash up on the dash and off she does into limp mode. If I ease right down to a stop it’ll drive fine again then it starts all over again same goes for turning the truck on and off. If I’m driving very steady I don’t seem to have an issue but with my holidays booked for august to Cornwall I don’t fancy any problems with the caravan on the back.

Any advice and knowledge welcomed I’ve owned so many land rovers from classics up to this d3 and I’m thinking I should have stuck with the 300 🤦‍♂️🙈

I can't comment on whether changing the pump is the right thing to do or not.

If you are going to, watch this first so you know what you are in for

You may as well check the pressure first, as that should tell if if the pumps working well or not

Hi Pete thanks for the reply, if I can lay my hands on a pressure tester I’ll see what numbers it’s showing. I’ve already been watching vids and doing research on the low and high pressure pump and I think I’d prefer it to be the LPFP but knowing my luck it won’t be.

Was it a genuine filter you fitted ? I had very similar problems after fitting a cheaper filter, I changed it out for a genuine one and it's never run as well as it does now.

Hi, yes was a genuine filter just like the one taken off, after reading and seeing people say the same as what you’ve just stated I didn’t want to risk putting a cheaper one on to create more problems. What problems were you getting with the cheaper filter on any error codes or loss of power and limp mode?

Update!

So I cleared the codes and took the truck out for another run, I tried to get the engine fault to flash up to put the truck in limp mode but I couldn’t get it to flag up. I arrived home and checked the codes again and have now got P0404 exhaust gas re circulation control - circuit range / performance. Both my egrs have been blanked and with the injector pressure code now not showing I’m a little lost as what to try next. First port of call will be voltages on the lpfp. I checked the fuel rail pressure while on tickover and it’s spot on. My heads spinning a little thinking what it could be now if it’s not fuel problems.

I had this code when one of my diesel return-lines were leaking, fairly easy to check. Mine were leaking between two injectors.

I’ll check the fuel lines thanks for the tip. I’ve just had to be towed in truck went into limp mode and cut out on me, wouldn’t restart then showed I had no fuel in the tank which confused me as it had over quarter a tank before I left.
