United Kingdom 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Auto Zermatt SilverDiscovery 3

I've been back and forwards to Warwick (from South Oxfordshire) everyday this week, so I've been doing some mpg tests.

My car is a TDV6 auto.

Driving normally (i.e. same speed as everyone else and 80+ mph on the motorway), I was getting 25mpg.
Driving at the speed limits, accelerating slowly and keeping the cruise control set to 70mph on the motorway, I got 32 mpg over the 1hr 20 min journey. This was without the air conditioning off. However with it on, during the same journey and with the cruise control set the same, the mpg dropped by 2 mpg.

Therefore, driving very gently does produce massive gains of 7mpg. I've just got to now work out what this means in money terms and wether is worth being the slowest car on the road!

I, on the other hand, have been 'enjoying' my new D3 rather a lot (now that it's run in), and daren't look at the mpgs. Very Happy

Matt, I'm guessing these are the trip computer's numbers, and not you working it out based on fuel in and miles out?

I have been enjoying life this week, and definitly not driving for economy, and I can't get me average below 24.4 Crying or Very sad

I will be towing the caravan and doing a weekend off road this next few days, so lets see if I can get it any lower. Wink

Yes, they are the dash figures. I know these are a bit higher than the real mpg, but if it just use those, it is a true comparison between the two styles of driving.

Austria 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Auto Arctic FrostDiscovery 3

All the time I was on winter tyres my fuel consumption (on the display) stayed at 9.8 litres/100 km (just under 29 mpg). Now on summer tyres it has improved to 9.7 litres/100 km (just over 29 mpg). The car has now done about 13000 kms (8125 miles). Largely autobahn driving at about 120 km/hr (75mph).

Ireland 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Auto Zambezi SilverDiscovery 3

I am getting an average of 28.6MPG in mine over the 2500 miles since I got it almost a month ago. This is a mix of long journeys, quite a bit of going up hills (low speed, low ratio stuff in some cases), and town driving. Not 'enhanced' yet.

South Lakes to Dover 28.7 mpg
Boulogne to Poitiers 29.8
Tootling about local 34.4
Poitiers to Boulogne 30.9
Dover to South Lakes 32.6

Temperature was high for all of week

MPG is full tank to full tank, not computer.

M-way speed avge 74.

Enhancement next week, so will be interested in any difference.

384 miles with a trailer, 3 adults and 4 kids = 29.2mpg. I was impressed.

Fuel Economy

I am driving a manual at the moment and am averaging 29.9 mpg. Have had an auto for a couple of weeks and averaged 26.7 mpg from that. It seems to me if you drive using the torque (Change up at 2500 rpm and down at 1500 rpm) you can get the car to do what Land Rover figures suggest.Very Happy
