Does the patch make much difference then Steve?
Yep - I think so! It definitely seems to have more poke!

I'm about 2000 after the VIN range so I presume mine must be 'normal'. Its really slow getting away from junctions often though (its a manual).

What really is the fuel economy of the diesel?
I've done some quite scientific research including accurate measuring techniques and can say with some confidence that it is.....
more than 20 (most of the time ) and most probably less than 30 mpg the rest
of the time and theeeeennn......???

Your dealer should check or know what version your engine mapping sw is.

The first 500 miles when new my Dad was getting 30mpg, then when towing the caravan he was getting about 23.5mpg but he felt in normal conditions he would have got a bit more as he was trying to play catch with my 7.5t lorry while in heavy traffic he kept getting left behind and junctions roundabouts and traffic lights when we were on our way home from a vintage rally. When we got home he reset trip computer and he has now got it upto 32.5mpg but he is a typical "Sunday driver" and is very light on his right foot using all the gears keeping below 2000rpm.1998 Isuzu Trooper 3.1DTi SWB Commercial *Fir Green (Mica)*

24-28 MPG
My 2.7 TD MANUAL Seem to take now on summer with summer wheels and without skibox:
- 9.6 liters/100 km average, including city driving also, means 24.5 MPG
- 8.4 km/100 km on long distance high way driving at about 110 km/h, this means 28 MPG

I've got a really boring commute to work, so to keep myself amused I play "fuel roullette" along the lines of trying to get 600 miles from a tankful. I finally achieved it last week, with 602 miles on a tankful. 85.06ltr went back in, so there wasn't much left, though the computer said 11miles.
By my reckoning that means 32.2mpg.
For the other 51 weeks of the year I cant be bothered, and settle for about 28.5mpg.
I think this is fantastic considering the bulk / performance / comfort of the thing, and better in every respect than my previous D2.
The annoying part is seeing all the pertol repmobiles on company fuel at the rate of about 25mpg ... and do the treehuggers complain about them??Long succession of Disco's since 2001...

MPS - I assume that your calcs were for US gallons. Is that correct?
In the 'old currency' (Imperial measurements) the 9.6L/100km and 8.4L/100km would be the even better sounding 29.4 mpg and 33.6 mpg respectively.
And I am quite envious - as I am averaging 11.52L/100km after 6 900 kilometres of mainly urban driving.LeighW
The old girl is on her third engine...
* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)

Of course not... its not 'trendy' or fashionable to target them.

Maybe yes, I used Google to make the conversion. Never know about these old fashioned gallons. The modern world has been using liters already for decades.. -- too many modifications made to my Disco 3 to be listed in here --

Have found a massive improvement over the first 10,000 miles - has gone from 24mph to 29mpg on a mix of back roads and motorway (TDV6). Makes a big difference on a fill up!

What makes a massive difference on a fill up? are you talking about a software patch, turbochip or some of the premium diesel mentioned on another thread1998 Isuzu Trooper 3.1DTi SWB Commercial *Fir Green (Mica)*

4.5446 Litre = 1 imperial Gallons
On this basis, my truck averages about 27MPG but my fuel is HEAVILY subsidised and so I don't worry too much. My V8 110 averages 12MPG and isn't susbsided at all so I don't use it too much
IMO the TDV6 has better fuel economy than my D2 TD5
