What really is the fuel economy of the diesel?
Was bored waiting for someone yesterday and took a look at the handbook. That said that the combined mpg of my manual diesel was 25.0. Now from memory the brochure and the web say 30ish. Which is it?
Interestingly in 10k miles I have average 24.4mpg so I know which sounds more believable.

Me too - and WDS 13.4 plus a newly found desire to use Sport mode all the time and will undoubtedly cause it to drop but hey who cares, its only money Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

made a difference to mine, if I drive steady it does up to 27mpg. Overall Average is now about 25. It pulls much better in the mid range after the patch was loaded.

I picked up a new 06 'S' last week, seems to have been built March / April would it be fully up to date or should I have the dealer check and update?Discovery 3 'S' Bonatti Grey.
My HSE auto is now 4 weeks old and done just over 3,000 miles! On average I get 25mpg. However, on two four hour motorway trips this week, I averaged 29mpg by using the cruise control as much as possible and driving at 75-80mph.Matt

Oh and the new seat base I had fitted does not drop anymore !
And yes, patch 4 makes a big difference, especially if you suffered the turbo lag problem. Seemed to be more noticeable in manuals than the auto.
Ask the dealer to check. They should have a record of what level of software you have or at least be able to plug in and find out.

Went to GS Thames Ditton today to book me motor in for the WDS13 patch 4
....the Chief Conceptionist said that this patch would only be done to specific VIN numbers and even if mine was one then it wouldn't be 'till the end of June ...

Not sure of my VIN but this was done up to patch 4 by a friendly LRA tech.
Vin range: 5A300394-6A355105
A customer may report a concern of a slight engine hesitation when the throttle is re-applied after a period of deceleration and the vehicle is almost at a halt. The hesitation can be 1-1.5 seconds.
Cause: The turbocharger unit spool-up time at low engine rpm can lead to what is perceived as a hesitation. Commonly known as turbo lag, it is a normal function of turbocharger dynamic performance. An engine control module software update is now available with an updated torque map to improve the throttle response at low engine rpm by up to 40%.
Action: Should a customer express concern regarding the above, refer to the Service Procedure detailed in this bulletin to update the engine control module software and improve the turbo lag delay time. However, the customer should be advised that the update will not eliminate turbo lag.
Worldwide diagnostic system (WDS) with LRCD 13 or later and patch file 2 installed (available on GTR).
