Remote Key stopped working |
|
Hi,
Sorry, this is a bit of a dup, I added the following to another topic which was labeled "Bumper clips". Anyway, I just thought this one deserved its own topic, so hope its ok to repost it here..... I have added quite a bit of extra text, and some additional questions and comments, so this is the best one to reply on. Sorry for the DUP.
Remote fob stopped working, so I tried the spare key, and its the same, no worko.
So after grabbing the bumper clips I went round to the mechanic side and asked him to check the key, I thought they could test its remote signal ? ? ? - He said OK, Ill change the battery, I said you wont - It is a closed unit - He said, no, I will change the battery..... 15 mins later he comes back, ok, I cant change the battery... ROFL) That is LR Spain for you - This is a GENUINE LR Garage in a major City - If only he had listened to me, he could have saved himself 15 minutes.
PS - He said that its impossible to test the key without the car being present ! Is this correct ? I thought they could check the signal of a remote without the car being there ? Isnt it just a signal ?
I assume that it is probably the Inside Receiver Unit Faulty ? Or is it more likely to just be the programming ? Or a Fuse ? OR ?
Problem is that I would rather try to fix it myself, as LR here are really really really really CR!AP. I think this probably means it needs to go onto the diagnostic tester though, or would anyone know a way of me checking myself ?
Cheers all.

I have the same problem both keys stopped working, took it to my local LR dealer who said it was the RF Receiver, this was changed by myself 10 min job, but this did not solve the problem, took it to a LR dealer in the next town and this time they said it was the keys and have ordered 2 new keys ( i don't think they would fail at the same time) but there is a 10 day lead time for the keys so wont know for a week or 2 will post the out come.

WOW. 2 weeks to get keys, thats surprising. Thats silly thinking they have both failed, when apparently they are supposed to last "14 years"....
How much was the RF receiver ?
I assume they checked the keys and tried pairing them to the Receiver Unit ?
I also assume they refunded the RF unit ?
What else can it be ? There isnt is there ? Key, RF or Pairing ?
STRANGE.

RF Unit £27.00 LR Dealer Wanted £130 to supply and fit!!!
They don't need pairing to the receiver all it does is pick the signal up and then send it to the car, we think it is a wiring problem but they don't!!!! the supplying dealer are paying as it packed up after 3 weeks of buying the car so if they want to order new keys they can!!!

Are all LR dealers crap then ? How can it be so hard to pinpoint the problem ?
I thought it was just the dealers here, maybe not !
Why do they keep going on to me about re-programing the keys if they dont need pairing ? Is this just a ploy to get some more Service Call money from me before moving onto the next step ?
Pretty surprised about this. Thought their computer thing told them and pinpointed electrical issues like this.
Be good to get other peoples thoughts on this ! Anyone ?

BTW - Out of interest, why did you buy the RF unit and fit it yourself, if the car was only 3 weeks from purchase, and under warranty ?
Cheers.

Hi S_F,
The keys do need pairing to the car.

Unbelievably after a few months of not working at all, yesterday the keys started working again... LOL
Does this give an indication of what the problem might be ?
This obviously rules out a "pairing problem" or a "blown fuse" - The fact that it stopped working and started again must surely point to the RF Receiver inside the car, with it now being "intermittent".
Well, maybe it won´t stop working again so I can just forget it.....
