Rasta prob the best one, about £800 plus fitting.
Big country £650 plus fitting.
The other one that Non Stick Nick or The double one that Chris Tyler had are suppsed to be good.
Fitting usually involves stripping back bumper and drilling the metal underneath to secure.
Found mine more hassle than it was worth to be fair so took it off.
Can't help with detailed fitting Jason as didn't do it myself.

Why need one unless you are planning on going somewhere where you need 2 spares and maximum storage space both inside the vehicle and on the roofrack...? Oh and if you have fitted a long-range fuel tank thus needing to replace the spare slung under the car...
The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

One on the expo and one underneath ? Or does the expo rack have that low a weight limit ?

But the rear wheel carrier does look 8) Laughing

PM Spiderbaby - he is fitting a rear wheel carrier IIRC. He might have some tips.

Jason,

I took two spare wheels to Tunisia, and one new tyre. All were KL71. I also had another spare wheel underneath the car, with an AT2, just for emergency.

I needed none of them, and TFC had a tyre repair kit that meant that I was unlikely to need them. No doubt the rear carrier looks macho, but no doubt you don't really need it. Thumbs Up

I think the Expo has a limit of 50kg, or 70kg, not too sure without checking the spec sheet that came with it. Its not that it wont carry more, its a stability thing.

I am hoping to ship the D3 to the US this coming Spring/Summer, and want it ready and ALL in house self sustained. It will be there for 3 months Very Happy , coming back just before xmas 2010, well we will but the D3 will arrive early 2011. Gonna base ourselves in Somerset KY, at my mothers n father in Laws and gonna explore.

D3 needs to be ready by May, serviced in April, tanks drained of every last drop before being shipped from Lakenheath USAF in container.

2009 was a crap year for us, and we as a family are taking time out, thats all

Mac, I keep my 2nd spare on the expo rack all the time with no probs. Its been up there for a good 10 months and no signs of the rack bending or stressing. I use one of uncle rays wheel clamps and the wheel sits across 2 of the spars. Thumbs Up

Bearmach used to do one but, Thumbs Up I think it was the Rasta in disguise. You can check mine out if you are passing. Much better than grovelling underneath when your up to your knees in mud and ruts!

Laughing Laughing Saw the Dent Ken remember Whistle , I know we can push the roof rack on its weight, but trying to stay within its tolorences, and trying to minimilise hassle. Not sure it the rack will come TBH, as the height in container, apparently they require certain dimensions of free air in shipping. No idea why

Jason, as Ken says, on a daily basis it's hassle. Looks cool but getting the stuff in and out of the boot give unnecessary grief, hence mine is gone.
I had a 20" wheel on the back which is why it looks so huge. Probably look better with a standard size (width).
I too opened the tailgate before releasing the carrier....donk but no damage.
The big country one is certainly a sturdy piece of kit and they have made a couple of mods since I got mine.
Had to relocated the wheel studs as they had the wrong pcd, doh.
As said, great idea in theory but in the real world too much aggro.
Mind you, I don't fancy lifting a couple of my wheels up onto a roof rack, they weigh a flipping ton!!

They fit quite happily in a container with the rack on. Let the tyres down to about 15-20psi and ratchet strap them from the front & rear tow points to the container securing rings. 4 in all. Vehicle in access height or better still drop to shipping height if you have a BBS box for your travels. I can probably get you the battery saver gizmo if you need one..
Sounds like it will be fun!
Off Roading is OK.... But I'd rather be Boating!
