Just a nugget of info that may help, it looks like the Si9243 K-line transceiver chip is going out of production. The L9637D from ST Microelectronics is 100% pin compatible Mr. Green

Thanks for the update! Thumbs Up

Or, alternatively, you can use any LIN bus driver available.

I have also managed to compile Alex's code with the Microchip XC8 compiler and have successfully used a 20MHz crystal with the relevant code change Thumbs Up

I have been tweaking my controller some more over christmas.

A new feature i have added is the LED and its control logic.

Now there are two options for the remotely mounted LED.

1. The LED flashes when the heater is running under control of the module. When you turn the ignition on, the LED goes off. I did this for mounting the LED in the front Grille, so the LED doesnt annoy drivers.

2. The LED can also be put into a new monitoring mode. In this mode, the LED flashes when the heater is running under control of the module as before. But if the ignition is turned on, the LED will continue to flash until the module stops the heater. Then it continues to monitor the heater while the engine is on, if the cars can-bus starts the heater, the LED comes back on (solid not flashing).
Its been interesting to have the LED on the dash in this mode and see when the heater is running and what has control of it. It was surprising how often the car ran the heater in the recent cold spell.

With the controller set to temperature limit, you can see the heater stop once it gets to > 75c. Then if you have the heating whacked up, the car re-starts the heater etc. I have also noticed that you dont need to have the HVAC set to AUTO for the car to start the heater, i thought i had read somewhere before that you did?...

I have now fitted the ones i promised to friends and family's cars, also a couple of members on here.
I have a spare complete module with loom and remote mounted LED. Il put it in the for sale section tomorrow.

Here's my latest contribution after Alex's good share spurred some action from me.
Also in answer to your PM (harrythespider) here is photo of my latest board using pic16f1829lin chip.
This has everything on board e.g lin driver chip and seems very stable using on board osc. It's only the size of a 10p piece and is triggered as before using headlamp/ignition_on or as I've done the t80 transmitter unit, only because I already had one, but any tr/rx unit that gives an output can be used. I bought a load of pcb's from china and adapted them for this project but soldering the ssop pic16f1829lin chips on is not for the faint hearted. Top marks Discostick for your beautiful unit.
I have put comments on software, which is Alex's just rejigged for this chip. In the the spirit of this post I'ii make them available, or for anyone that doesn't feel able to build their own I have some spare boards but would have to order some parts in PM me.

Cheers all

Tony

NICE!!!!!

I didn't know about this particular microcontroller with a LIN transceiver inside.
Just one chip - as the chip has an internal 5V voltage regulator that can power the microcontroller - and a few pasives and you're good to go!!
Even cheaper!
Nice find!

Thumbs Up

Please do so, even a picture after a hand drawing is OK.
And if you post the sources too, then, maybe, you'll encourage others to experiment!
Again, nice turn this thread has got - look how nice, simple, easy and beautiful the initial idea has been transformed into.
And this because some passionate people hasn't stopped to experiment!
Thank you very much!
