Rear plastic cover on top of tailgate
Cruising at a steady 130km/h and heard a clack then spotted something fall and then shatter or the road surface and disappear off into the the distance (all through the rear view mirror). Pulled up at the first opportunity and found that the plastic shroud that surrounds the third brake light had vanished!
The brake light still functions but appears to be held in place with the adhesive that they used to stick the plastic cover on with..
I'm quite happy tacking simple jobs myself but what would I need to sort this out myself? I imagine that the cover is a separate part but not sure how easy it would be to deal with the adhesive....MY11 D4 SDV6 SE LHD (with remote park heater, heated seats in row 2, heated steering wheel and rear HVAC controls!)

I thought the light was part of the assembly, there are a few on ebay at the moment.
I'd contact The Large One to see how much they are first before ebay though.

Wow. Considering the heavy amount of swearing people go through to replace the high level brake light, and the fact that they usually fail miserable in taking off that plastic cover and end up smashing it with a hammer, I'm really surprised this came off simply by wind power Dennis

Car is just over three years old and was supplied in the UK so I don't anticipate that my local Swiss servicing dealer would spend much time on a goodwill/warranty claim so 'happy' to spring for the cost of fixing this (it's the first 'fault' I have had so can't complain!).
Should I just get the part and some windscreen adhesive such as "Sikaflex 255FC", remove as much of the old adhesive as possible and then re-apply using a similar quantity?MY11 D4 SDV6 SE LHD (with remote park heater, heated seats in row 2, heated steering wheel and rear HVAC controls!)

Yes - remove existing sealant and replace.
I'm astonished that it came adrift given the effort you need when trying to replace one.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
P.S. wrt the 'correct' adhesive to use, the LR part No. is STC50551 which appears to be Terostat 8596 and seems to be rather expensive at £20-27 a pop. The Sikaflex 255FC stuff can be found for less than half that.MY11 D4 SDV6 SE LHD (with remote park heater, heated seats in row 2, heated steering wheel and rear HVAC controls!)

The plot thickens..
I had some body/paint repairs done on my insurance last December taking care of damage caused by hailstones last summer - but I wasn't aware that they had touched the tailgate...
It turns out that they must have done and come to think of it, I do recall hoovering out bits of red and black plastic in the rear boot after collecting it. Having now had the chance to inspect this area in a bit more detail, I know find more red and black plastic shards in the opening and some scratch marks where it would appear that the original third brake light cover was removed!
I guess they used the wrong adhesive to stick the new one on! Oh well, I shall have to pass by the body shop and let them sort it out for me. Well done to all those who refused to believe that the original item would never have just come off with air pressure!

Two weeks out of the 3 year warranty and I just noticed that the high level brake light has started to split open (you can run your fingernail inside it):

It was in last week to get the rear window taken out and then re-bonded back in. Can't say one way or the other if that was anything to do with it.
Edit: I have a photo of the light from 4 weeks ago (to show the dealer where I was getting water ingress in my rear window) and there is no split.
